Probably the synthetic from Appion... however it is costly.

I use Vapco, because it's cheap! Bought some JB Black Gold @ Johnstone Supply, it's on sale this month.
Have you guys ever experienced problems with vacuum pump oil?
I just replace mine with the NRP stuff from U/R.
Any big difference.....I haven't noticed any.

Only problems I have seen are heard of happen when people don't change their oil or let it run low. I doubt brand is as important as maintenance.

Thanks for responses I use black gold, just wondered what others used.

just like auto oil...everyone has their preference i guess.
if you're changing it as often as you should be, you'll find yourself buying the cheaper stuff.

This is what I do with my vehicles... probably good advise for vacuum oil also.

I dont see whats the difference in what oil you use as long as its ment for the vacuum pump and you change ever so often depending on the usag
I get in approx 3-4 times before i change my oils... you know what they should do. attach a little bottle to the vaccum oil so i dont have to search around for an empty bottle to fill it with my old oil.. that can be a pain and messy if you get too small of a bottle

I bought 4 quart bottles, then I started buying gallon jugs. fiill the quart bottles off the gallon jug then put the used oil in the gallon jug. The gallon jugs are cheaper, and the quarts are easier to pour into the pump.

I've got a Uniweld 6cfm pump that I actually like a lot. I use the Uniweld pump oil, and have had good luck with it so far.

We buy 50 gallons at a time. With a large service department, we go through a lot of vac oil. I have never seen a difference in the oils. Just change it when you are supposed to. Which means very frequently. Very frequently.

I have the Appion TEZ-8 pump. It uses a bottle of oil on the outside of the pump, one can actually change it WHILE PULLING a VACUUM! You can see the oil, and tell when it is turning brown, and when it is starting to turn white. I carry a few extra bottles of fresh oil with me, and when I have most of them dirty I clean them and fill with fresh oil.
Really NICE pump, however pricy.

I had not seen that 'stream' of videos... kinda re-inforces I made a good decision with the TEZ-8.
One thing about the G5Twin recovery pump I did not realize when I bought it... one needs a cooler downstream of the pump on really HOT days with 410. I bought the CPS products MT69 cooler. Put it in a bucket with some water and recovery is QUICK!

If I run into a problem system with moisture I grab a gallon of oil and 2 empty cartridges and start filling and changing as soon as the oil changes shades , isolate and blow through with nitrogin and repeat. This is where the time is gained with the TEZ8 over larger sump machines. Man it is a flexible machine.

I had a fresh cartridge in it, pumped down a replacement system to 300 microns (held 350) in about 10 min.
Yes, it is REALLY a nice pump! Lots of power, lots of features, and easy to use. I wish the output was horizontal... I hate it when it rains and a raindrop hits the output (has not happened with this pump yet), I guess one does not get everything.

You could hook a regular hose to it. As close to everything as there is :grin2:

Ya know... I forgot about that: The exhaust cover has regular garden hose threads... I could carry a 90D fitting or just put one on there permanently.

There's one thing I just haven't understood about vacuum pump oil. Why is it always mineral oil? Wouldn't PAG/POE absorb lots more moisture? Or is it an inferior pump lubricant so it's not used?

The drier the oil the lower the vacuum. Keeping your oil dry as long as possible is desirable. The vacuum the pump makes should be what dehydrates a system. They also make traps to help keep moisture out of your pump oil.

Got that bit. I see that the Tezom oil is even sold in gallon containers, are the cartridges refillable (without resorting to a syringe or whatever?)
"Debris catch tube protects the pump and automatically relieves positive pressure - eliminates accidental oil showers. "
Accidental oil showers aren't fun. Sprayed a customers chalky weathered vinyl siding once. He didn't see that area as an improvement.

The 'cartridges' are in reality a small plastic bottle... with a mouth around 1" dia or more. Not hard to dump/refill... and one can take a paper towel (I prefer the blue shop towels), and stuff it in there to wipe the cartridge out.
Somewhere I read the APPION oil was synthetic... anyone know if this is true or not?

It is a synthetic blend that is very hydroPHOBIC; it repels moisture, which allows more moisture to be released in the exhaust ultimately keeping the oil "dryer" for longer. This has a number of other benefits in vacuum pumps... pumps tend to have less sludge buildup and less mechanical wear with our blend.

What is the part # for the 3 pack of Appion oil cartridges for the TEZ-8? And,
What is the part # of Appion oil by the gallon?
Store I trade at can order it, however they are not good at finding part #'s...

Speaking of changing your vac oil, I found a super fast way to do it. I had a standing presure test going on a very large lineset. Only about 200 psi of nitro. Well I forgot to blow it before I opened my isolation valves. What a mess. Lol
