1. Where is the best place to buy a torch set?
2. Should I get one with a cutting tip?
3. What size tips would I need for residential? I am thinking 0-1-2 maybe?

I would also like to know if there is a widely accepted "best" torch set. Also, my company is wanting us to get air acetylene ... any thoughts on that? Negative Ive heard is it takes longer to heat up and gives more time for heat transfer to components you dont want to heat...

I bought the victor torch kit. Comes with a 0 and a 2 tip I believe. For resi I just use the 2. Takes care of everything I need it to. Another good couple tips to have is the hook tip and I like the tuning fork tip for reversing valves. Oxy acetelyne is the way to go IMO

Turbo Torch has always been my choice.
I'm not saying I'm the last word here because I've never tried oxy acetylene for brazing, but I can tell you that Air acetylene has served me just fine for over 20 years now up to 1" brazing, and as far as I can recall, the largest soft solder I tried it on was 1.5" and that was a cake walk of course.
You are correct, you want to get on and back off the joint as fast as you can to minimize the transfer.
Air Acetylene can do that very efficiently with the right tip.
I'm too lazy to walk out to the van at the moment to see if I can read it in the dark lol, but I think my bigger tip to get on and off 7/8" is an A8, Then, it does not hurt to have some smaller ones around for soft soldering like an A4 or A2 even. I know I have done some 7/8" with the A4 brazed, it's not as easy and not as confidence installing that you have a good joint without visual inspection, but even at that small tip, it can be done.
I have a buddy who started up in business a few years ago who jumped right on an oxy set up, and it just seems like overkill, and a cumbersome set up to me for what we are doing here. That said, it is getting the job done for him since he still has the set up. I just think he is putting himself through some unnecessary work and cost. Oxy is not super cheap last I checked.
Hope that helps and good luck!
As far as where to look. Not sure there, I bought mine at the supplier, but google offers lots of help there :)

I use oxy/accet with a rosebud tip for everything from cap tubes to 4" pipe.
I took my tube bender and made my rosebud a 90* tip...the 45* tip angles are stupid in my opinion...especially when you are trying to get in between pipes or close to a wall. The 90* wraps around to the back MUCH easier than a 45* tip.

I use turbo torch for everything. Haven't used oxy/actelyne in probably 10 years
