Getting pretty frustrated, "new system" installed 12/08 - heat works great but we haven't been happy with the A/C side of things. Whenever it is hot, unit runs all the time while the temp slowly increases. The unit doesn't freeze up, I've got a good temp differential, 21 degrees the last time I checked, but just doesn't seem to blow enough. The original installer company is out of business, won't return calls, I had another company out yesterday - they found a leak and recharged the system. Before I had a chance to ask him to confirm the hookup, he was off to the next job :-( Unit worked a little better, but still just not able to cool quickly, even in the evening when the temperatures are down. Seems to remove humidity quite well, just won't cool down. Sometimes internal temp is as high as 80.

Assuming unit is fully charged and operating, could it be the wiring? Maybe the blower not engaging properly to high speed on cool mode? Here are the details:

XL16i - 4TTX6048B1000BA
XV95 - TUH2COOA9V4VAA
Coil - 4TXCC049BC3HCAA
Stat - TCONT802A

DIP SWITCH SETTINGS:
SW1
1 - OFF
2 - OFF

SW2
1-0N
2-ON

SW3/4
1-OFF
2-OFF
3-OFF
4-OFF
5-ON
6-ON
7-OFF
8-ON

WIRES:

STAT=FUR=A/C
Y2=Y=Red lead to Yellow w/ red stripe (Y2?)
W2=W2=n/a
R=R=n/a (RC/R JUMPED ON STAT)
W1=W1=n/a
Y=YLO=Y
G=G=n/a
B=B=B

Could someone point me in the right direction on how to confirm this setup? I'd rather not waste another service visit if everything is OK.

Thanks in Advance!
Brandon

is a good match according to AHRI/Trane. Did they fix the leak or just "gas and go?" The system may be operating properly, but only working in first stage the majority of the time. The blower speed is reduced in 1st stage operation. Depending on the OD temp, the unit may run alot. I have a XL16i heat pump in my house. Seems to run runn more often than my old system, but then it is operating at reduced capacity and energy consumption. I have been VERY pleased with my system.

Thanks, yes he did fix the leak. I was surprised since the unit wasn't freezing up, but he fixed the leak and filled. I notice a small amount of condensation outside, nothing inside on the big line. Temp above coil certainly good, usually over twenty degree difference. Thought maybe blower wasn't pushing fast enough, but sounds like that isn't the case... Must just be too hot for our unit.

The temperatures in most of the country is above design conditions, so a properly sized unit will be struggling to maintain 74-75F in the late afternoon and should be running constantly in low stage by about 3PM then high stage by 5PM and keep running in at least low stage until 11-12PM.

This is exactly how my upstairs unit runs. Its' a Carrier Infinity 17 which is a comparable unit to the Trane XL16i. Humidity is very low and it's very comfortable and saving energy. The system needs to run for 8-10 minutes to reach full efficiency. A 2 stage will run about 30% longer than a single stage system as well and remove even more humidity.

A 20 degree temperature drop is about right depending on humidity levels.

Doesn't look wired right for the 16i, sounds like it is wired for the 20i which has a much lower capacity on low.

Yep its wired wrong ,There is a dip switch chart on the blower door if you can decipher it
