Hi Experts,

We recently had Brand New Trane HVAC system, Model#4TTR3048D1000A, with Coil (Attic) 4TXCB048BC3HCB, installed at our house. The moment the Condenser was charged and brought up, it started making squeaky/ squeal noise, consistent at the start, but intermittently consistent after some time.

Our installer, spent several extra hours to decipher the problem, but could not understand the exact cause. Ultimately they accepted that it could be the problem with the unit itself and must be taken up with Trane warranty department. They had been kind enough to be on standby until the issue is completely resolved and we are happy with their work.

My question to the community here is:

1. Has any one dealt with similar problem of noise in Brand new system, before, and know the solution to the same?

2. My stand is to take off the condensing unit and completely replace with another Brand new Unit from Trane as this is a problematic unit from the start itself, but the warranty department is pressing on just changing the Compressor inside the condensing unit rather than the whole unit as it is covered under warranty. I do not feel comfortable living with factory-defective piece installed at my house. Would like to get some guidance, if anyone has faced the same situation.

Thanks

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Any chance you can provide a sound bite or video clip to help understand the problem?

Some may not agree with me but, yes if the noise cannot be resolved without replacing the compressor then you should get a new unit. I'm saying this as a homeowner myself but as a service manager and factory rep. I also want a satisfied customer. If the techs can't determine the cause get them to have a factory rep. come and check it out with them.

I have a clip but am unable to upload it and getting some security token missing error. Mods, can you shed some light here.

If this was a strange noise in the outside unit at start up, then I'd opt for a whole new unit. I agree that replacing the compressor in a totally new system at start up seems like a poor way to handle it. Isn't Trane still using the roto-loc compressors? If they are, then it would make changing the compressor very simple and might not be such a problem as "torching" in a new compressor!:.02:

Really, I thought I captured that sound clearly. Are you sure, speaker on machine are not off. There is a bleak high pitch noise in the back ground. Let me know and I will try to record it again if needed.

I hear it, it's more of a chirping sound. It's not mechanical IMO it sounds like the spine fins are rubbing the chassis in just the right spot to make an audible noise.
