Carrier CKC38 fan is not running. It has Condenser Fan Motor HC33GE208 GE model 5KCP39BGR201BS 1/6 HP motor. We replaced capacitor this morning and the fan ran for some time and it stopped. After a while it started running again it stopped. I can smell a little burnt smell coming out of condensor unit. It is not running any more. We got this Fan motor replaced last year. How long these motors lasts? Now that I have a brand new capacitor POCFD305 30+5 MFD Oval 440 VAC dual capacitor installed capacitor is not the problem. Is it the fan motor or something else that I am not aware of. Why did the fan ran for couple of mins after I installed the capacitor. Can someone help me out here. I have a rookie HVAC technician who started training last two weeks helping me out. Is my fan motor dead?

You need to call a service company. It could be a few things, but unless you know how to check it, and have the tools to do so, you will never find the issue(s).
