I've been thinking about jumping on the iphone band wagon. Been carying a simple flip phone for years now. Is it worth switching? Is the size of the iphone cumbersome to carry while working?

Yes its worth it. I've been using iphones on the job for over 3 years and they are very helpful for all kinds of good stuff. At first I was hesitant because I thought I would break it, but its held up just fine in my back pocket.

I would have never bought myself one but my wife gave me one. I'm on it all the time. Use it for work- has several apps for PT charts, Tecumseh technical data, nice 2 way camera for getting numbers off hard to see parts, check available part at supply houses. I could go on and on. Just get one

I too carry just a simple flip. I'm usually wearing dickies shorts with the extra pocket that fits the flip perfectly. I've had others tell me to "get with it" and get a smart phone. But till this point I've never had a moment where I was like a really wish I had a smart phone. I spend enough time on the internet when I'm home on a big screen. The only thing lately that has got me itching a little is the ability to swipe credit cards with a smart phone. Also I would probably be able to store alot more info on my business contacts with one. And even though I dont like to text more of my customers seem to and it would be easier on a smart phone. But for now I like the size and the price of my flip. So ask yourself, what will you be able to do with a smart phone, that you really want to that you cant do with your flip? And then decide if its worth it.

Agreed.

I love having a pocket sized computer that can also make phone calls! Now only if I had a wireless printer, although now that I think about it, I may be able to print with the iPhone cord.

I use my smart phone to download service manuals ALL the time... not as much anymore because Ive got most the units I work on saved in a file... the main reason I started doing this was for setting variable speed blower motor dip switches that seem to be wrong all the time. As far as a source, I usually just google the model number and loom for a pdf...

One of the nicest things about a smart phone is mating the GPS and contact list.

Say I am just finishing Ms Jones call... and the next one is Ms Smith...
Just a few taps on the phone screen and I have a map from where I am NOW... to the next call. And since I have well over 500 customers in the phone... it makes keeping track of them easy.

I also have important data on each customer... like details of their equipment, gate code if it is a gated community, notes on issues, etc. I also have their email addys, so I can send a note if I need to.

Someone already mentioned pictures... you can text them or Email them around.

It is a WONDERFUL business tool, well worth the cost and extra mos charge for data. Check out the multi-device data plans at Verizon and AT&T... not a bad deal.

OH, and be SURE to set up regular back-ups of the entire phone to your PC or Apple... loosing what is on the phone could be hazardous to your business and your mental/emotional health... <grin>

I love the screen shot hit center button and top right, pic taken. Great when u open a email with a list and want to avoid re opening email or u have no signal.

Or i use to send conversations that were text and want to put on email for file.

Is this built in or a app???

GPS is built in. One can type in an address to go to (choose start as current location), or one can go to your contacts to find the address to go to.
Also a feature to show or hide traffic. Traffic is shown as green, amber, or red lines over the road. In a LARGE city like Atlanta... this is invaluable to avoid traffic tie-ups.

VERY easy, and for me very useful!

I have the tapatalk app and don't really care for it. When there is multiple pages to a thread it only shows me the first page and it won't allow me to see the next page. Maybe I'm the only one that has that problem, but I doubt it.

Here's a couple of screenshots of what it does. Notice the page number and post number, when I want to view the next page it keeps the same post just changes the number. Maybe I have something set wrong.278151278161
