for these pvc intake/vent pipes be hidden? I'm just wondering these
pipes will only be operational during winter time so, can they be
shorten back to the back of the condenser? I will put a cover on that

most mfrs do NOT want screens on the pipes, per manual.

I have found many a frozen pipe due to screens, depending on your climate be aware!!!

Why?

You do not know the situation, or do you, that led to the placement.

From what I can see, it needed to clear the window and the A/C unit.

Granted, it is not the best job of insulating the pipes.

Can't see the whole situation, but shortening them would place them too close to a operable window it seems.

I know that with high-efficient furnace, the placement of pvc exhaust has to
have some clearance like at least 12inches above ground,etc. I guess my main point
is I wish the technician was creative enough to be able to install it functionally as well
as aesthetically pleasing. I think all HO would agree with me. That's all.

What is directly above where the pipes exit the house? They can terminate 1 foot above the window.

You do not want them cut back behind the unit, the flue gas is acidic and will destroy the condensing unit.

It looks like there's maybe a gas line doing the same thing on the outside of the house just below the PVC. I can only assume that the space to the left isn't accessible for some reason.

On all the homes I've opwned I walked the job with the contractor and discussed various routing options and so forth beforehand. I woudl never leave it up to their own creativity. But some HO may not care until after the fact. Better IMO to know what to expect up front and ask questions.
