When ac unit runs, only the fan turns on. The compressor keeps trying to start, but it pulls 90 amps and immediatly kicks out. It does this continually.Does this mean the compressor is bad?

What could cause this?
It could be one of several issues, low voltage, burnt wire, high resistance in contactor, bad start component. How do you know it is drawing 90 amps?

A stuck compressor, bad winding, bad cap, burnt wire, bad contactor, system pressure not equalizing, low voltage, short cycle, hydrolock, to name a few.

Call to have it serviced, and do not attempt to start system, further damage could alleviate a simple repair.
