Whew!!!! DIRTIEST coil EVER. This is the unit. It all started last week when i was on the roof for a no a/c call on another unit. Keeping eyes and ears open for opportunity I noticed this unit had NO temperature rise on the chilled water coil. This tweaked my curiosity. The plant manager gave me the OK to check it out. I found no air flow even though the 15HP motor was at full tilt. I told him the coil was plugged. This is a 12' wide X 5' tall and 12" thick coil.

He called us back the next day and said they had just had the coil cleaned and the coil cleaning company said I didn't know what I was talking about. They came out and checked it. They confirmed that I was right. Then sent a dude out to re-clean the coil on this unit and the small Reznor MUA. This guy soaked and ruined the motors!!!! BOTH OF THEM!!! a 5HP and a 15HP.

We went today and started to clean the coils and removed the motors. Planned on being there just today. Joe and I removed the 15HP and he started cleaning the "already clean" coil. It was impregnated with this granular rubbery stuff that took ALL DAY to get out. Several washings from both sides. Pink coil cleaner at 100% strength had NO effect. We return tomorrow at 0600 to install the 15HP motor.

I fixed the Reznor already.

So, without further adieu, I present the pics.
Here's the big Hastings unit, a real beauty!!!!

Here I am working on the Reznor staying nice and clean.

A chiller on the roof with an "active" control panel. I noticed the wasps buzzing in & out all morning.

Oh boy, it was a surprise for them and me!!!
I give them one night and they get zapped tomorrow... :(

Joe caught a lot of it on himself.

Quite a LOT of it!!!

I combed the fins as there were many areas completely folded over.

A small amount of the crap we got out of this coil.

Ok, so what's the black stuff that's all over the roof, on top of the units, and packed in the coil?

Did they just get tired of changing the filters?

The people at the pres didn't even know. It came out of the coil like granulated rubber. It was impervious to pressroom cleaner, acetone and the coil cleaner we used on it, Virginia KMP Acti-Brite.

We got the motor in this morning, sheaved aligned, belts tensioned to 7#, rotation correct and fired it up. Draws 11/10/13 amps, rated for 19.6 FLA. Best of all was the 2.7" wc static drop across the coil. It is working better than it has in a LONG, LONG time! And we're bidding the coil cleaning contract for all the RTU's and the MUA's. I got off the roof at 2PM as I was dead tired. They wanted me to also wash the coils on a BOHN chiller unit, too tired and sore, plus it was 110° in the shade, which there was none of up there!

I like the Posi-lock puller you were using on that sheave. I have the same one works like a charm
