I have a manufactured home built in the early to mid 70's with the original HVAC equipment. I apologize but I do not have the current make/model - all I know is that the system is very old. It still works but, because this is a vacation home and I do not visit it frequently, I want to update the system to make sure it is working when I show up. There are actually two evaporator/blower units, one to heat and cool each half of the house (split down the middle as the home was manufactured in two halfs). I replaced the outdoor compressor/condensor units about ten years ago (still R-22).

I have been quoted two Trane systems as follows: TWO STANDARD SPEED DOWNFLOW FURNACES (TDE1B060A936) MATCHED WITH NEW
TRANE ALL ALUMINUM EVAPORATOR COILS (4TXCB036).

I have had Trane equipment before and have had great luck with it but I also know it is fairly expensive. The home is in North Texas so A/C is more important than heat.

My question is whether this is overkill for a home that will be occupied 20-30 days per year. I don't need any upgraded features like variable speed fans, etc. - just reliable cooling and heating. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I'm not a Trane dealer so not familiar with their model numbers but I'd make sure these are "Mobile/manufactered home" certified units and not standard residential units!! We use mostly Coleman, or Miller manufactered home units, as most major residential companies do not make a mobile/manufactered home certified unit. I'd make sure of what you're buying here. You can't install standard residential units in these type homes!:.02:
