Recently installed AC. Still waiting for the electrician to finish... I just thought the way it's connected to the furnace looks kinda ugly and not professional. On a scale from 1-10, what would you give it?

A lot of foil tape there!!! What is supporting the lineset? Hopefully not just the connections to the coil!! :.02:

I see a glaring problem with the foil tape that will cause it to eventually fail.
Ouch. 1 to 10 ? Well its " there " and seems to be new equipment. The foil tape isnt a real good indication of things left unseen.
Not going to rate that on a 1 to 10 but wouldnt be happy if it was my home.

Did the same guy do the tankless water heater? It's looks like crap.
Very sloppy install. Do you think he cut corners on the vacuum and brazing with nitrogen?

Outdoor unit looks like a nordyne, grandair or nutone.
So typical for that brand.

Well can't really rate it because its not art so it "could' still be done properly but if you cut this many corners it probably was not. I wouldn't let this fly at my house and would not let my installers put something like this in.

I will give him credit for attempting to seal it all up tight. I've seen prettier installations, but the have tons of leaks.
Shouldn't there be at least a short section of pipe on the combustion air inlet for a 1 pipe installation. Maybe this brand doesn't require it.

Is there a way to tell how much corner he's cut? I can see the foil tape but I had no idea about vacuum and nitrogen.
I'll have to confirm with him on the water-heater...I hate to think but he might have installed the furnace as well!
I don't want to let this fly but what can I do at this point? Any suggestions are appreciated!!!
Just let the guy know your concerned with the quality of his work.
There's no easy way to deal with something like this because no matter how you address the issue he's going to be defensive.
Bottom line is you're paying to have it done right and if you're not satisfied then he's not through.

But the problem is I don't know/can't tell what it's supposed to be done... What would be a better choice in replace of the foil tapes?

What can I tell him now the everything has been drilled and sealed(minors the electrical)? Is re-installation an option?

Ive seen some reaaly nice work in the "wall of pride" section. These guys have super hiigh standards around here and if they've got a problem with your install is a safe bet it was done half ass.
If YOU suspect enough to question it without being in the trade then you are never going to be satisfied with what you have.
Now function is only something we can guess at.
The company I work for does commercial and Im not part of the install crew. I can tell you our guys like to run hard drawn straight copper and either hang it with clevis' or clamp it to unistrut
Taping up a brand new furnace door and all wouldnt make the cut and everything they do is straight and sealed........and no tape.
City inspectors look down on mounds of duct tape and will red tag our jobs because if it.
You may have to hire another contractor to come in and inspect it only. At least you would have something in writing to show your contractor.
Oh and if our guys use that specific duct tape in your pic they will red tag that job no question asked

Its ugly but looks like its sealed at least. What are the basement dimensions and how many btus is the furnace? The basement has to be large enough in order to pull combustion air in without the second vent.

Unlike buying a new Corvette were looks and performance or expected, when you have a new a/c system installed, we look for the best performance, and taping up air leaks, is helping the performance. If your worried about the looks of the foil tape, buy you some spray paint the color of your unit, and paint the tape. :)

I am assuming this is new contruction work? Did you pay directly for this install or the builder?

Might not be the "best" installation, but it is code compliant.
Atleast he sealed it up.

Don't know your locale but our inspectors require foil tape to be 181 stamped and all tapes must then be covered with mastic. I assume it was inspected.

Well, the house was built in 2010 so the furnace was installed 2 yrs ago by the same contractor. It's been running smoothly. The builder told us that the furnace was "AC-ready"... therefore I wasn't expecting all these duct tapes, etc. I thought there was hook-up on the furnace ready to connect. But it doesn't look like it's the case. I'd be soo grateful if someone could show me what an "AC-ready" Kelvinator furnace supposed to look like?!

Thanks for the good advice. I'd look into that. The piping IS attached to the big aluminum tube by the furnace...feels pretty rigid.

So I got my hands on an installation instruction. It says the outside unit should be 12" min. from the building but mine is 7.5"...
And also, this guy put a 13 seer system in, instead of 14 seer per our contract...what's up w/ that?
Do these indicate corner-cutting?
emailed him, no reply yet.

Sometimes the type of blower you have and an addition of a TXV will up the seer a level.
