Just because you're AC is running all the time, doesn't mean that the actual electrical load is constant, right?

If you're trying to bring down the temp the unit is working harder (and drawing more current) than if it's returning cooler air, no? (Due to the freon pressures involved and the load on the comp?)

Just curious, my electric bill wasn't that bad and it seemed like the damn thing was constantly on this past month trying to keep 74 or so.

if your A/C is running all the time then you have a problem. An efficiently running A/C cycles.

if my unit is size for a heat load of 93* outside and 75* inside at 50% RH and it is 93* outside and my tstat is set at 75* it will not shut off.

In theory, compressor amp draw increases proportionally to the cooling load.

Under design conditions, running continuously is normal. It takes several minutes for a system to balance and reach peak efficiency, so cycling is less efficient.

That's what I think is going on here, the weather has been as hot as the design temp, or hotter. Not that this thing is the most efficient unit to begin with, mismatched coil and all.

That's kinda what I thought, no getting around the laws of Physics. :)

I work on Buses and Reefers, and they either unload, or go into low speed (or both) once at set point.

Wasn't sure how that related to HVAC.

It just seems like my unit runs A LOT. But my Elec and gas bill was only 170 or so.
