Return vents

I was in a house with 3 bedrooms, a dining room and a kitchen. There was only was return in the dining room. On the first floor was one big return, but thats it for the house. Shouldn't there be one return for each of the bedrooms? The Evaporator was icing up, would that be the reason why?

Some cheaper houses, or some tough remodels only have one large return.

The system usually works better with some return in each room... but it can work this way too.

Check the size of the duct, check static pressure on return side and that should help you narrow down if you have enough return.
