unit was coolin' fine. lights dimmed, came back on. Now high-side, liquid line is freezin' up and suction line stays room temp. Everything ohms just fine. electrical is good. cap tubes don't seem clogged. Do ya think the compressor reversed? What would be the opinion here?

First time of such occurrence? Where is the ice on liquidline? Clogged filter drier will cause the pressurised liquid refrigerant to expand, evaporate, and hence draw in heat - thus ice.
How old is this unit?
All the best.

Is it a heatpump? Reversing valve may have fried.

Just realized my rookie mistake, guess that's why I'm still the tool toter! dang it! Here I was talkin' the talk, postin' on here, and tellin' the boss I know what I'm doin'. (this explains the snickers from the guys when I told them I couldn't figure this one out. buncha butt-brains!)
You guys are right, I put in leak-stop a few days ago, and FORGOT TO CHANGE THE FILTER DRIER! Now I'm feelin' like an idiot....lol
BET I REMEMBER THIS LESSON!

Go to your truck, grab the leak stop stuff and throw it as far as you can. Nothing belongs in that system except refrigerant and oil.

Don't be. Mistakes will only make us a more knowledgable person.
