TRY YOUR TONGUE ITS THE CHEAPEST. IF NOT THAT ,TRY COOPER DIGITAL WITH PIPE STRAP.

There is no special device for measuring superheat. Superheat is simply the difference between two temperatures.

thermometer: A digital or mercury. Seems to do the trick

I use the clamp on accessory for my fluke multimeter and it fits up to 1 3/8" copper tubing. Great for both subcooling and superheat readings.

my fluke clamp on thermometer is one of the most useful tools ive ever bought

Have both cooper and fluke ,cooper seems to have much more reliable thermocouples also had a weiss its a little cheaper in price but just as good as a fluke 16 0r 52.

how long have you done ac work?

where do you measure super heat and sub cooling?

suction line for superheat and liquid line for subcooling as close to where you are getting your pressure readings.

how do you measure for superheat and how do you measure for subcooling?

You go to school where they teach all the things you will need to know to be a decent service tech.

there is always a jackass on everyone of these sites. i am trying to do my best, i hope you don't ask a question ever.

Well, I am one of the few I guess that think no one should work in the trade unless they have had some schooling, don't you have google.Google superheat and subcooling, it is a basic funtion of AC theory.I see enough in the wall of shame to know we need strict licensing and regulation.

i went to school 10 years ago for this stuff and did very well, but it has been a long time since i have had to use that information in the field. i have been installing mostly gas and hydronic systems, and on occasion a heat pump. i ususally just look at head and suction pressure when charging and servicing. i ran into a high velocity system with a adjustable expansion valve, and i wanted to use a superheat calculation to adjust it.

Sorry, fair enuf, I just take pride in my work and trade , maybe I should quit looking at the wall of shame pics.

i guess i'l go out on a limb and say how i think to measure for super heat and subcooling. superheat is suction line pressure converted to temp and suction line temp. then get the difference. subcooling is the came but with the liquid line?
