I've run into a few good looking women... but more often than not I'm scared to get the ticket signed by the nasty women or the men who walk around in thier undies.

I had a residential customer who was very old man and very rich. He was married to a beautiful young women who was 30 years younger than him. Whenever I would go to the house she would flirt with me and I always loved going there to do maintenance. One day I was working in her giant walk in closet and she showed up and told me to come into her bedroom. She said "I want you to unbutton my blouse and take it off." I did. She then said " I want you to unzip my skirt and take it off." I did. She said "Now take off my bra and panties." I did. She then said "If I ever catch you wearing my clothes again I'll have you fired." :)

I didn't like dealing with the money, collecting it or having to explain why the bill was as much as it was.

I seem to remember that most everyday working people would pay the bill & just be happy to get the unit fixed.

But, the good ol "well to do's" that had 5 car garages & 4 bathrooms would complain about the price, complain about how long it took you to get their & last but not least, they wanted you to bill them.

Now there were a few that weren't that way, but I remember most were.

I also hated taking my shoes off to go in the house.

The biggest reason I got out of that business was because I REFUSED to sell.
I was a repairman to the core, I repaired everything I worked on.
If I ran into one that wasn't worth fixing I would suggest they get a salesman out to the house.
Because I chose to repair not sell, the guys that couldn't pour piss out of a boot if the instructions were on the bottom much less wire up most thermostats correctly were treated better because they sold 2, 3, sometimes 4 condensers per week.
I had to get out.

I always hated putting a programmable thermostat on for an older home owner and you would look in there living room and there V.C.R. is flashing 12:00. Thats good for at least 1 call back to explain it all over again.

I always hate when they say the the unit needs charge because ice on coil. when a P.M is needed.

Just curious: Does anyone ask the homeowner, "How will you be paying today, check, cash, credit card, etc.", when they make the appointment? I've heard business coaches recommend this, I wonder how it works in the real world . . .

That is the last thing out of my dispatchers mouth after confirming all the information she was just given.

i also hate the asking for money part. i got it all the time. "why so much?" well you know, a motorized tool box and parts house just pulled up to your doorstep, etc. thank god i only do commercial hvacr now. the customer just signs and wishes me a good day. then they thank me. it's great.

Thanks for the insights.

A friend of mine who's a photographer used to have headcahes all the time trying to collect from clients. However, he told me recently that he has turned over all his collections to a service. It's not a collections service, in the old-fashioned break-your-kneecaps kind of way, but a service that actually pays him and then bills and collects from the clients. He said they pay him withing 3 days! I'm sure they take a cut, but he sure seemed a lot happier and more relaxed. Maybe that's something to look into for anyone else struggling with the awkward "OK, I'm finished and now you owe me money" scenario.

i hated collecting the money also. I know i didnt rip anyone but sometimes the crap that came along with it. I only miss the tips, which I made an easy 500 between memorial day & labor day .... I also disliked when they would try to tell me the problem when i arrived .. lol ...fix it your self then if u know the issue
