I have a Comfortmaker A/C unit. It was installed in May and worked flawlessly until this week. I (at the demands of my better half) turned the unit off when I went away for a few days. Upon my return the house was at 82 degrees. I live in New Mexico and we are finally getting rain so it is more humid. The problem is that we normally set the thermostat to 78 degrees. It comes on at 79 and off at 77. No problem. The last few days in the afternoon it runs 1-2 hours to lower it from 79 to 77 as opposed to the 30 minutes it normally takes. What is wrong? Would the increase in humidity cause this? The field rep said I might be trying to regulate it at a higher tem than advised. He said I might need the house at 76 degrees. It is a 410A unit.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Greg

Why are you on this board and not calling the installer back?

He came yesturday. I have never heard that it will take longer due to humidity. If it cools to fast I understand that the humidity will not be lowered. Also why can it cool 2 degrees in 30-40 minutes except for the afternoon when it takes 3 hours to lower a degree?

latent heat is removed first, then sensible heat. higher humidity levels will increase the run time.|

see here for more info.

Absolutely, humidity makes a big diff. I have a dual display thermo watching my system. In try weather, temp diff between in & out can be up to 23°. In humid weather, can drop to 16° as a big chunk of its work is removing said humidity. As the temp goes up outside, capacity drops a smidge. So lowering the temp in the middle of a humid afternoon will take a while!

OK, I am obviously to stupid to figure this out.

I want my Stat set to 78. When late at night or early in the morning it comes on at 79 and off at 77 which is great.

I go to work and set it at 79. I get in at 5:00pm and it hits 80 and comes on. I set it at 78 so it will not turn off until it gets to 77. At 8:00 pm it turns off at 77. Wet bulb reading at the return is 62. I do not see where the thermostat has the ability to monitor humidity (not this one at least ..Robertshaw 9615)so if the unit is cooling at full capacity 3 hours to lower temp 3 degrees in resonable?

Sorry I am so slow
