Bluegrass legend passed away
I spent a lot of time around Doc, and John Prine, and David Bromberg, too.
Another legend, gone.

Doc Watson was an incredible musician who really opened the door for " technical " country music guitar playing in many ways IMO ( he was considered a bluegrass musician but his right hand picking style really made for some badass country riffs on electric guitar ). I did not know that he was blind until I read the news yesterday.

Sorta..........
He was playing on the sidewalk of my home town in the Blueridge mountains in
SW Virginia in the late 1960's. He wasn't "begging" but he did have a small
tin cup afixed to the neck of his guitar for tips. He had a small sign that said
he was blind. (Had his name on the sign).
I didn't know about him at the time but was curious about his style of music
since it was a bit different than all the other guitar players. As time went on,
I learned who he was and heard a lot more about him.
RIP Doc
