in CA we now have to perform a pressurized leak test of the duct work on new installations, there is a required minimum pressure it must hold/minimum rate at which the pressure drops. im not an expert at the new laws, just some of the things ive had to deal with. there are other items such as...if 25% or more of the duct work is un-insulated, and in an un-insulated space, on say a unit change out, that duct work must be insulated. any other states dealing with items like this?

Is the pressure test done on the main trunkline and the branch runs? what do you do, cap every supply at the boot, or do they just test the trunks only? That would suck, because I know most people cut their holes and install takeoffs before hanging in the basement. If you could post a link to a regulation page in Cali, so I don't have to bug you with questions

ill have to find ya a link, let me work on it, everything has to be capped, dealing with economizers already installed is a pain when performing this test, you also have to be certified to do the test. im not certified, i just assist the guy that is dealing with my equipment. certification is only for the duct test though....some of the other items can be done by a service tech. its a new regulation, i suspect it will change in the years to come, alot of the inspectors dont even know what theyre looking for, i have to tell them.......
