I purchased a American Standard 13 seer, 2.5 AC/Gas Air Handler, model number ZA7B3030A1000. They finished the install on a Friday, that evening I even had to shut it off when the house was at 75 because it was cool. That Sat it froze up. They came back out on Monday and said the first guy didn't put enough freon in. They recharge it with more freon and then my thermostat starting cutting off so we replaced it with a Honeywell 8000. The unit then wasn't getting cold enough, so then they said my TxValue needing replacing, so they did and recharges the freon again. But, the air coming out of the vents is still only about 10 degrees colder then the room temp in the am and 7 degrees in the afternoon. So by noon or so the house temp is shooting up to 80 and running on day. It was 87 outside and inside was 80. Now they are saying it is the compressor and they are going to replace it on Monday. Any thoughts or comments on whether it is the compressor or if something else may be going on?

I'd say they are guessing,hopefully I'm wrong.

Sounds pretty scary to me. Local A-S suppliers are required to have a factory trained rep on staff. If you can find out where it came from and call them, maybe said rep can get involved. They haven't a clue.

i'd say they'll run out of ideas when all the parts have been replaced. No, seriously though, i would find a reputable company to come out and give you a diagnosis that is not a conflict of interest-AT THE COST OF THE INSTALLING COMPANY.

I hope that you are not paying for any of these callbacks...

Why did you chose this company initially?

Low bid?

The owner of the company went to school with my son, he also did a install of an ac at my church. I got 7 estimates and his was the lowest but only by 500.00.

I told them today that I expected the owner to come out and install the compressor.

I have document each time I have had to call and what they have said to me. So, I am prepared for the worst.

So you all think I should get another rep to come out and check out the system first.

You better get someone out there that know's what they're doing.....that many call backs already isn't a good sign.

Yeah, I just talked to my husband and we are going to get someone to come out a check it out. Question will that interfer with the warranty?

As I said above, contact the supplier about the situation. Maybe they will send their tech rep out with the dealer.

What does your contract state? I would contact the supplier as suggested by BaldLoonie.

This is a prime example of why consumers need to understand that when buying hvac equipment name brand is meaningless....the consumer needs to shop around for a good reputable service company and quit worrying about name brand. What good does it do you to install the most heavily advertized well known hvac equipment when they cant even fix it in the event it fails or worse yet that its failing because of poor installing techniques? When shopping for a new hvac system consumers need to check out prior installations of the company with recomendations from a number of prior customers and to make sure they get nothing less than a 10 year parts and labor warranty...forget about whether its a trane, carrier, goodman or whatever...if you do exactly as I have stated you will be a happy camper in the end...if you dont then the sad story of the poster who started this thread could become a reality at a huge expense.

Is this coil sitting on top of a furnace.

Not sure what you mean. They installed a split system which is what we had. So the Air Handler is setting on top of the furnace. I had a tech come out and he said that the air blowing out of the air handler should be warm air not cool and that some of the pieces should be hot to touch and they are not. He said the compressor what holding at 60 said it could be 65 but everything else look fine. The temp coming out of the vent registered at 71 with the temp in the house being 78.

But he wouldn't touch it because of the warrenty and told me to deal with the company who installed it and work with them until it is right.

and for the post that said I got what was coming.....

I spent an entire week getting estimates doing homework on the systems, looking them up in BB. So excuse me if I went with the low bid a person whom I had dealt with once and seem to do a great job. Suggestion for the next person is yes get some numbers of recent customers, go to their place of business and see how they handle customers etc. I could have gotten screwed by the guy who quoted me $6000. But, it is sad that anyone has to deal with this kind of mess. But, believe you me it will get done and it will get done right.

from what i read they might have overcharged the system making the compressor not work or the duct work is to small

if the refrigerant leaked once then it leaked twice maybe theres a leak. I could be wrong.
i just hope the leak is in the compressor for your sake

I have had problems myself with setting the new large coils on old furnaces (especially Oil furnaces). I bet you are not getting proper airflow across the coil. Often times the txv is also not installed correctly. Good luck , I hope it gets fixed soon.
