Trying to get everyones viewpoint.

We sell Heil and some York. Both of these manufactures mandate that all 13 SEER units be mated to a coil that has a TXV (no exceptions).

I am seeing other dealers installing 13 SEER units with non TXV coils and wondered if they are allowed to do that or if they are just not doing the install correctly.

Can you list for me the Brands of AC units you install and whether or not the manufacture mandates a TXV metering device.

I would have put this thread as a poll but I don't see that as an option.

Some brands will get 13 without a TXV. It also may vary within a brand whether a TXV is needed. Hard to say for sure but off the top of my bald head...

Amana/Goodman, Allied Air brands, Lennox, some Nordyne can get by without TXV. Bryant/Carrier, ICP, Rheem/Ruud, A-S/Trane, York seem to need them. Didn't Lennox start out only listing TXV coils with 13s then due to TXV shortage, decided that piston coil will get 13?

You can sell anything. If you aren't delivering what you promise, I don't think that's right but sure is done. Glad my boss doesn't read this :(
