hello,
I have a recently widowed friend whose central air broke last week. It is actually a heat pump made by Lennox (10 SEER). The inside coils blew a leak. I was wondering if the inside coils could be replaced. Also, are heat pump coils different than A/C coils? I saw some on the net very reasonably priced. Since she might be selling, price is a factor.
This is what I saw:

Thanks in advance.

Beware the NET! If you buy it off the net, who do think will install it? Do you take your own parts to the auto mechanic for him to install? Who will warranty the new coil? Manufacturers will not warranty a coil that fails due to improper installation. Call a pro that you can trust, pay him a fair price and you will have your problem solved. Trying to save a few bucks up front will cost you more in the long run.

Is it a like to like coil? Call in a contractor to ask for opinion. Coils are better selected by the contractor.

The coil used for heating, and cooling in a heat pump, is the same.

If she is going to sell, then she really should consider putting a proper system in and raising her home price by the system cost. She will certainly make her home more marketable by having a new system installed. In fact she may be able to find financing that can delay payment for quite some time. For instance if she plans on selling in 2006, a 6 months same as cash might be a way to eliminate her paying anything out of her pocket at all.

I know about buying off the net and the warnings associated with it.
I also know that heat pumps heat and cool while a/c just cools.
I want to know if the inside coils are the same for a heat pump or a/c. Does anyone know?

You're going to screw up your friends system by trying to help.

Call a pro and have a matched coil installed.
