I would appreciate some feed back from those that have to work on residential HVAC equipment. I am working on a remodel of a very old house that currently has no HVAC, insulation and almost no wiring...

In our remodel plans we have a location identified as the Furance closet. House is about 1920 sq ft, located in the SW of NM; hence hot and humid in summer and cold and dry in winter.

When I get closer, I plan to get HVAC unit sizing but for now have looked at "large" residental units as a baseline.

I want to make sure that the area is sufficient for the HVAC contractor for both installation and service. I would like the Return air to be down below; house is framed with floor trusses sitting on an elevated stem wall (24" crawl space) and pitched roof, 8' ceilings, aka fairly standard. Want to have filter boxes in the "furance closet, and of course the actual furnance/fan unit and coiling coil. All supply air ducting is envisioned to be overhead via flex duct after it leaves a supply air riser off the coil. Is a closet that is 32" wide. (door is 28") 36" deep, 8' tall with a raise plateform at 20" above floor adequate for a typical install? (The compressor will be about using equivalent; 20 feet away on the north side of the house and it's power will be feed from an outdoor power panel about 20' another direction away)

How much light inside makes service easy? Is one dedicated 20amp circuit enough? Should I put two outlets on each side to accomodate the power needs of various manufacturers? Should I install two outlets with conduit to the ceiling for the T-Stat wire again on each side to accommodate different configurations?

This is way out on a ranch and so far I haven't found lot of willing contractors to help with sizing of ducts, registers, unit sizing etc. It's so fun to live in the boonies. I know this is alot of questions; I just don't want to prevent a sucessful installation down the road. Any help and advice to make life easier down the road will be apprecaited.
