View Full Version : Blower fan...continuous operation question

Hi all, I was curious if there are any pro's and con's to running my blower fan continuously while in cooling mode. I have an older HVAC system (not variable speed).
Advantages I can think of...
Continuous air movement may keep the rooms cooler a bit longer before the condenser kicks in (?)
Cons I can think of...
Higher electricity usage
Shorter motor life
I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks

pro's would be greater air filtration if you have a really good filter. More even temps from room to room. less chance of mold growth on coil. cons would be high electric bill, constant noise in the house, high electric bill, and lastly, high electric bill.
One other thing... you're electric bill might go up with constant fan operation ;)
Running a blower full time could cost you $30+ per month with a standard motor.
Cycling it with the condenser results in better dehumidification.

Con is higher humidity. When the cooling shuts off, that wet A coil turns into a humidifier pad and puts that moisture back into the air. When a customer calls in about high humidity, constant blower is the first thing we ask. Telling them to go to auto cuts it back for them.

Not an HVAC expert, but I only continuious run the thing in the winter, I try to balance room to room temp differences with ceiling fans if a damper set up is not feasable, which in my place it pretty much isnt

There have been folks touting a product called a fan handler, I cant verify whether it works or not since I have no experience with it. They make some pretty good claims. You may want to ask about it.
