For as long as i can remember, Lennox usue those middle digits. HS9 is the series, it was preceded by HS10, HS11, HS12 etc. The next three, 511 are read as 51,000 btu, or 4 ton nominal, and the last 1 is the units Phase. It's A 4 ton, single phase unit. I don't why they don't use the standard 24, 30, 36, 42, etc that every one else does. They have never been my favorite mfr, thats being nice.
Hope this helps in the future.

i wont use lennox now cause its all 410a the amp draw diff from high to low speeds on the new unloading scroll is 1 amp. makes no sense. 410a has higher press, say hello to freon leaks, you have to buy a new elect leak detect to find it, they didnt change the copper thickness. it isnt a puzzle. use r22 untill they finger it out, or price it high to cover the warranty calls.

This is Turtle.
The different way of looking at BTU Rating of the above numbers , but as stated by Lennox Maxium BTU Rating ability.
141 = 14,000 btu = tonage awww
211 = 21,000 btu = tonage awww
261 = 26,000 btu = tonage awww
311 = 31,000 btu = tonage awww
411 = 41,000 btu = tonage awww
511 = 51,000 btu = tonage awww
651 = 65,000 btu = tonage awww
813 = 81,000 btu = tonage awww
953 = 95,000 btu = tonage awww
1353 = 135,000 btu = tonage awww
1853 = 185,000 btu = tonage awww
2753 = 275,000 btu = tonage awww
Now every 12,000 btu = 1 ton and then take this above and figure out what tonage you want to call each of these pieces of equipment.
Now if you ever hear customers say they got a 4 1/2 ton unit of tonages of years back , here is where it is coming from. We as Lennox dealer back then when the HS-9 was being sold was told by Lennox to call the HS9-511 a 4 and 1/2 ton unit. So at one time in history there was a 4 and 1/2 ton condenser unit or system. To be called a 4 and 1/2 ton you had to have a HS9-511 and a CC-56 evaperator coil , which was called by Lennox a 4 and 1/2 ton system or unit. The next time someone tells you there is no such thing as a 4 and 1/2 ton system. You can point them to the HS9-511 and matching coil was called a 4 and 1/2 ton system by Lennox.
