Situation: Fresh air intake for A/C needs to be on roof (no gables, soffit won't accommodate 6" pipe). Does anyone know of a decent termination hood vent for a pitched roof (7/12)? Needs to have well constructed bird/rodent protection.

I haven't really turned up any specialized fresh air roof terminations. Unless someone can recommend something better, I'll likely go with this one, removing the outflow damper and placing some heavy duty mesh over the opening (if none is present):

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi crymtide. Thanks for your comments. Good advice on the professional, but having installed many roofjacks in my years, and also having an intimate knowledge of HVAC, I'll be installing the hood myself.

I did see the warning, but I'll be placing it low on the east side of the roof, where compass direction and structures will ensure no rain infiltration. And if, by some small chance it does, I'll replace it.

What I am hoping for is that someone will have knowledge of a small hood made specifically for a residential rooftop fresh air intake. This will save me from modifying a product not designed for my purpose.

Perhaps I should have posted in the tech to tech forum, but I assumed that this would be the right forum since I'm asking about my own house.

Any suggestions welcome.
