we just inherited a new account last april. what i just got done working on is a YCD060C9HOAA S/N G41429850. we have many of these and also newer models. we were supposed to go to school on the controls for these units, i believe they are called voyager and the newer ones,(i forget what they are called). trane kept cancelling the class and now we won't get to go til fall. a lot of good that does us this summer. so far we haven't had any problems with troubleshooting the electronics all problems have been normal a/c problems. my question is this, how do you troubleshoot these boards and thermostats? is there a site i can go to? i tried trane, but had no luck. they use low voltage DC i know. they are not like normal stats. instead of R Y G W they use numbers. what do the numbers mean? my background is refrigeration, chillers, racks, etc. however i have done my fair share of commercial a/c work. any help would be appreciated. thanks, i love this forum.

im not sure what kind of stats your using, but normally they use a trane digital stat, the numbers u need to be concerned with are 7,8,9,10,14, they have a few more numbers with wiring attached from stat to it, but it is just communications, so stat sees what board sees, but your basic y,w,g,r are on 7,8,9, and r is on 14 ususally. They should also have test 1 and test 2 jumper across this to check things, if you use a different stat like some type of automation system, you have to install a additional board and it connects to the main board basically giving it the same signal that you would get from the required stat. Really to me there isnt much to troubleshoot on these boards, it is just like any other board you find bad, you check voltages, inputs and outputs if you dont have what you should have board is bad, but i cant say i have seen any of the boards in these units go bad often, it is usually very basic. I havent worked on one in a little while but i think it uses 24 volts DC, but i think i may have seen some with 24 volts ac. Im not sure if any of this helps, i know enough about these units, but really cant give you helpful hints on the boards because they hardly go bad, at least in this state

Are you talking about reliatel control's?
I learned what I know of them the hard way, OJT and the customer paid me for it as well.:D
The books that come with the units are a big help, hope ya got one.

Call your local Trane rep. and tell him you need publication # 22-7706-03

This book has everything you need for voyager controls. Literaly step by step instuctions for troubleshooting circuitboards, sensors, and all the different modules. I actually just got my hnds on one. If you work on these units, you should have this book.

if you get nowhere with the controls, you can always install a CTI board. (Conventional Thermostat Interface). It'll have your R-B-Y-W-G terminals, and you can just connect a conventional stat. A 5 ton unit without a control system is not going to make a difference. It's probably just a single zone, right?

thanks for the help so far, it's single zone. looks like i'm gonna be on the phone to trane tomorrow to get that publication. you get such excellent info on this site.

I must say that a most of the problems I've seen with voyagers, the answers were not in the book that Matt is talking about. I do believe the book is very helpful and should get you close most of the time.A must in every techs library. When you learn something that is not in the book, write it down on the notes page. You'll be glad you did. I have had Trane tech support go duhhh at some of the challenges I've thrown at them with these units. They actually said "What do you think?" one time and I was done with them. Go get the books and read through them before getting on the roof to get you primed.Reading the whole book on a 100 degree roof is no fun.
