im working on this chiller, heres the info
installed 2 years ago by ????
4 compressors
for a large department store
134a-- turbocor compressors
Now a couple of guys from my shop have been working on this for some time now.
All 4 modules have given them problems, particularily high head problems
they cleaned the screens in the evap side and replaced the bag filters
they also checked the cooling tower (ok) and cleaned screens for circ pumps.
i have just recently taken apart the condensing side and cleaned the heat exchangers with chemical i still seem to have 2 modules tripping off on high head/inverter temp
can anyone shed some light, it would be greatly appreciated

Are these the plate frame HTEX/Condensers? Did you use the special tool to circulate the solution thru the htex? Did you rap it with a hammer to loosen up the crap stuck in the htex?
These htex are high maintanence. Unless your tower water is pristine, you will have head pressure issues. The bag filters help but don't solve the problem. After servicing these I would not reccomend them.

these are the plate type exchangers. i never used the special tool i believe its called the 151a cleaning kit. i was using a large bucket full of chemical and a glycool pump with some hoses to pump through the htex's. i never wrapped on it with hammer. i cycled the chemical through for hours on each module.
is it essential that i use that tool? have you seen this lots before?

Just recircing acid won't clean them. Yes I have seen the tool. Each HTEX is cleaned individualy. The tool attaches to the HTEX and has an adjustable/movable spray head. You move the spray head in and out of the HTEX in order hit every pass. It sprays the chemicals out at a 90 degree angle so it shoots between each plate. It is then caught in a bucket and recirculated. Rapping the HTEX with a hammer helps loosen up anything the spray won't remove. Its a joy to clean. Youll also find that the HTEX farthest from the supply and return plug up the worst due to the deminished water flow. Your looking at a day a HTEX in order to get them clean.
