I paid a new heat pump system and an Indiana license HVAC technician accepted to get pay after installation. He made mistakes and couldn’t get the job done after 2 days. He told me that he took away the therostat and the 410a refrigerant from the system. He wanted more money must deposit to his bank account on May 9, 2012.
I need the heat pump working and worry more damage could be already made that he didn't tell me. What should I do?

do you have a contract?
exactly what is he telling you is the reasoning for the additional money?
call building standards and request an inspection/verification of permit... call the news with what sounds like extortion to get your a/c working...

lemme ask in a different way.
did you purchase the equipment yourself, and hire this installer to install your equipment?

I bought the system. No contract. But both agree pay after job done - system working. Job started on May 4.

Judge Judy would say no contract no money, you always have a contract even if it's a family member.

Call Code Enforcement and see if he is a licensed contractor and pulled a permit in Marion County. If not, that's a help. Is this a 1 man or an established business?

My discernment is kicking in, but this must be a land lord or someone flipping houses, no one I know would do this the way they did on their own home. :gah:

I agree something is not quite right here........
I bought the system. No contract. But both agree pay after job done - system working. Job started on May 4.
Both agree? That's confusing.......
Let me take a wild guess:
1. You BOUGHT the equipment from some guy ("Supplier") who agreed to get paid after the system was working.....
2. You hired another guy ("Installer") to install the equipment you bought from the first guy who also agreed to get paid after the system was working...
IMO, if this is the case....ALL THREE OF YA GOT WHAT YOU DESERVED.
Correct me if I am wrong.
So my questions Are:
1. Which guy have you paid? Did someone who did not get PAID take the Thermostat and R410A? Which one? (I can see the "Supplier" being unhappy because the "Installer" YOU HIRED isn't getting it done)
2. Was this new or used equipment?
3. What kind of warranty did ya get?
4. Did you threaten the installer about not paying and now he wants paid before he finishes?
