Scenario is a 2 story condo. The main return air is located in kitchen, and runs straight up. In the attic, is the Furnace and coil.

On the second floor is a bedroom right at the top of this return chase along with a 10 x 10 return in that bedroom floor level which is just about equal to the main entry into the furnace.

Problem is that often times the noise and conversations from the kitchen are heard up in this bedroom.

Any suggestions on how to have somone deal with this?

Only 3 ways I know to fight this,

1 Line the duct with accustic liner.

2. Put an offset in the duct, a sound trap, great in conjunction with 1.

3. Close up the hole in the bedroom and add a return elsewhere. If not done properly this can cause other problems like increased load, increased duct, air short cycling causing room temps to be uncomfortable, etc.

Thanks, 3 is not possible unless it is moved in a closet and I think that would make the room hotter.

Thanks
