...do i go with the prestige single stage 16 seer 3.5 ton system...or the prestige 2 stage 4 ton 18.5 system?
Which is more efficient? Bc It looks like i have to go bigger to get the 2 stage, however, if it won't be running at full capacity all the time I would think that would be more efficient? (thus the higher seer)

i don't have a 4 ton house...just to be clear. so i don't know if its overkill to get the 4 ton. they don't offer a 3.5 ton in that model. meh.

Theyre both nice systems. The two stage will run at approx. 2.5 tons in first stage. I dont think Ive seen any half tonnages when it comes to two stage equipment.
Oversizing results in poor humidity removal. Wont be a problem with the two stage.

Ugh...except the single stage only has a 5 yr warranty? And the calculation in the spec sheet is 3.4 ton and not 3.5? WTF? I'm gonna have a nervous breakdown. LOL
OK, Vote:
2 stage rheem value series 3.5 ton
OR
single stage prestige that might be 3k btus short?
Maybe I need to find a nice HVAC guy with a properly cooled home and just move in with him.

I actually am dating someone who has a 4 ton system in a 1200sq foot space with a 2 story cathedral ceiling. It cost twice what i'm looking to spend. It's freezing downstairs and its hot as hell upstairs. So I'm not moving there. ;) The ductwork is shared with the heating and the air comes out of the floor. He probably needed a 2 zone. This is the type of "investment" I am trying to avoid.

Twilly says you should be able to register the product and get 10 years, Twilly's upstairs is nice and cool. Twilly says remember it ain't the size of your AC but how you use it.

Unless its a dry charge r-22 unit you should be able to register and extend the parts to 10 yrs.
The 2 stage will be a 4 ton, they dont come in half tonnages and it wont be the value series.
Post the model numbers of each unit or.....email me a pic. If the pic is acceptable I keep my house at 70 degrees but can crank it down as low as you want if you get HOT ;)

Tell Technician if he fixes it correctly, HE can move in.
Although I wouldn't put that in the contract.

:) You guys are funny. i went with the rheem prestige single stage with a variable speed air handler (16 seer combined) and r8 mastic sealed ducts and I don't feel to terrible about it. Allegedly the salesman misquoted the 2 stage and it cost more than he told me. Thanks.
