I just had a new HVAC system (furnace, ac, coil) installed and I finally had a chance to run the ac.
Wow...I can't believe how loud and powerful the blower is! The air coming out of the register in the kitchen, which is the 2nd register from the unit, is like have a fan on high in my face.
I notice in the installation instructions that I found online, that there are dipswitches for cooling airflow selections. It states that the unit is preset at the factory for maximum airflow.
According to the settings, you have 1200 cfm hi/900 cfm low, 1000 hi/750 low, 800 hi/600 low, and 600 hi/450 low.
It's probably on the 1200/900 (haven't gone out to check yet). Can I set the dipswitches for a lower speed and still be okay? Would that solve my problem?
By the way...I have a Rheem RGRM06EMAES 60,000 BTU furnace and 14AJM24A01 2 ton condensor.

You should call the contractor and discuss your options for running at a lower CFM. If the only problem is at this one vent you could have a damper installed to adjust that vent to a more comfortable level without sacrificing the rest of the system's air flow.
I would not suggest you change the blower speed setting yourself as it will affect the complete system functionality. The contractor can check the system for proper CFM and provide any necessary adjustments to the rest of the systems to make it run properly for any changes. Adjusting the system to a lower CFM yourself could result in your coil getting too cold that could cause freezing and your furnace to overheat among other problems.

That furnace is a 95%/70% hi/low 900cfm. I would think the coil is designed for 800cfm. What is the model# of the cooling coil on top of the furnace?

The coil is the Rheem RCQD-2417AS.
The problem isn't just the enormous amount of air coming out of that vent. The blower is extremely loud...like a leafblower or jet engine...because the blower is at such a high speed!

That coil is rated for a 450/800 CFM. From what you describe I would have to guess that the blower is set too high at the 1,200/900. Have the contractor come and check the blower settings in comparison to the furnace and cooling coil's CFM ratings.

Being this system is under warranty and a new install let them sort it out. I wouldn't suggest you change it yourself.

We would like to know - What HE DOES to provide a realistic, Long Term solution. Hopefully, that is close to what he says.
