Going into this one to replace a cracked separator. Doing a piston rebuild as well and noticed extremely rusted out "Spark Plug" motor terminals. Going to get a quote to replace those. Question: I know the motor end plate has to come off due to getting at the o rings. Does the starter panel have to be rigged off? These S.O.B's are so rusted, I expect them to be a nightmare to get off. Any special tool (extra deep socket) to get them off? I also am looking for the torque value for the retaining nut to the piston. Any special procedures for that one? Thanks in advance.

If the motor terminals are not leaking then do no replace them. If its not broken don't try to fix it. Wire brush the terminals, and paint them. The procedure for replacement is to apply heat (to soften the locktite) and remove. The motor end plate must come off 1st. Removing the starter is not necessary, but its not really a big deal to take it off and put it back on later. I've done it both ways.

Scott,
Thanks for the reply. Thing is Scott, rust ain't the word for it....I think if you look at these terminals too hard they will leak. Thanks again Scott.

Oh....believe me I've seen some nasty ones :)
I wouldn't let it concern you unless they leak. I usually just carefully clean off the rust and apply some good Trane spray paint until they are dripping wet. Once dry that $90 a gallon paint usually does the job pretty good.
Don't forget to tape off the brass studs :)
