Hi,

I have been told that I could install a 4 ton outside unit that will work with my ARUF363616CA inside unit. Is this correct? I am just looking for clarification. I don't know this AC guy very well and just want to make sure I am being told right.

Thanks,

Oh please, it'll work.

With a different coil.
And a different blower.

Heck I would just not worry about the coil, and just stick in a 3000 rpm blower motor, this should help jack up the suction. :grin2:

The unit in question barely delivers a true 3 tons !

That unit is the small size 3 ton air handler that came out after the bigger ARUF3642 model which would do both 3 & 3.5 tons. After complaints about the bigger size of the air handler Goodman shrunk the unit down to the ARUF3636 so that unit is only designed to match with a 3 ton max.

pfft. If your gonna do that, you need a txv. TXV is the solution to all problems.

heck, just throw a variable speed motor in there and you won't even need to increase your ductwork.

OP, why do you want to go to 4ton?

Goodman has not made a 4 ton coil that would fit in that size cabinet even back in the 10 SEER R-22 days.
