Oh Jerry I think I have you beat. We looked at a job on Friday (big emergency), we were installing a three-ton rtu, a five-ton split, and could we do a unit for another tenant. Sure, well they need a ductless split for a conference room, property owners paying so we do his work so we do this work. Order the unit and my son and a helper go over there today and install it. Electrician and roofer do their thing. Now it is time to run it up, the business owner’s wife (who watched the things installation) says she does not like it, take it down. "WHAT" but it is all set and ready to run...I don't care take it down...big meeting, building owners there and says take it down and put it over on that wall, roofers gone, electricians gone, but not us. My son would not talk to the women he called the owners and me. They know one thing for sure, the bills changing due to a nutty woman.

Hey smokin: Do you know what a mini skirt and barbed wire have in common?

I turned around and sold the b!tch lady's unit to the School Districts conference room. Two days later.

I hope she is sneezing her head off with her allergies. :D

Kinda gave me the creeps reading this title... must be something with women and mini splits that just don't mix anywhere.

Some ritsy couple build a weight room in their new garage and wanted some heating and cooling in there. Old boss sold em on a mini split (perfect match for what they wanted). I get there with the mini split, mount the bracket on the wall when she asks WTF I'm doing. I explain... then she explains she doesn't want to see the unit and thought it could go in the attic where she wouldn't see it. I explain one again... She gets way pissy as to that's now what she bought, it's ugly etc... Then she offers to comprimise... she'll let me put it there if we pay the carpenter to build a box around it so she can't see it. I said absolutely.... but she'd have to pay the repair bill when it didn't work.

It was a long ugly day.

Funny you should mention spray paint, she said the white of the unit does not match the white of the trim. That is my fault; I just do not have an eye for colors...to be continued.

Amrick ole friend, I went to my brother’s house yesterday and was telling him the story. Well his wife is a realtor and she asked me if this was a realty firm in a certain city, I was surprised because she was right. I told her yes and then she said the name of the place I was stunned, and even more stunned when see said the women’s name. I asked her how she knew and she said she has only dealt with one-person nasty enough in the business to do something like that and that was the women.

End of story....The system is in and running.

Oh and one more annoyance....Sanyo 410A fitting is 5/16...wtf.....They told us it was to keep stupid tech’s from putting the wrong gas in...I guess the big stickers were not enough...wtf.

Sorry guys, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for all women. LOL
Personally, I love my ductless. Only, the guy that did the install had not a clue what he was doing so now I'm trying to figure out how to cover the line set (looks like crap!) I think I love the downspout idea, going to go with it.
I got him the adaptor to fill it, because he didn't have a clue what that meant (like you said, it's on the tag!). I bought two in case he lost his. ...guess what, he lost his.
Now I have the expanding foam bleeding house. LOL
I was gone when he finished.
BUT, the good news is, NOW he has done one, so he will be good for the next time!
Thanks for the help! You guys rock!

I use this stuff all the time, very nice. A good contractor can get it and do it for you.

Thanks Dice.
I usually do the stuff on my house myself, unless it's the actually hooking up and charging the unit, and I considered that, but only for a moment. :-)
I think I can install this, looks pretty simple. I'm pretty darn handy for a women. Dad says I'm the best man he reaised.
Thanks a lot for the link, that beige is exactly the color I need, may as well do it right.
Hey, have another question though. I bought my house and it had 3000 sf, at that time my 3 ton was undersized but I didn't notice it so much. Well, now I have added another 500 sf, needless to say I notice it now. (hense the mini)
The solution would be to get a new 5 ton HVAC system but I really don't have the cash for that now-a-days. I work for a construction company, I'm their architect. One of the HVAC guys said I could install an air handler in the attic and that may help to move the downstairs air up and maintain a more consistant temp. But another of the guys said he was full of #$*#. LOL
It's a bi-level. I put the mini upstairs in the 4 season room that I finished out.
What is your thoughts on the air handler?

Diceman
06-16-2009, 03:58 PM
I don't see how an air handler in the attic would do anything?
You either need to upsize the system or go with another mini split somewhere in the area you added. Hard to say from here.

He may have meant in place of the existing unit ... maybe?

Could a return be run from upstairs to the unit downstairs?

Mitts don't require it on their systems. I do recall the city multi's might though, can't remember that far back.

Mini-splits are a way different animal than regular A/C units. Both pressures that you list were probably on the low side since most mini-splits don't have access fittings on the high side. What looks like a liquid line is really just a long pipe that connects the txv (mounted inside of the condensing unit) to the evaporator. That's why both lines are insulated. As far as I know, there is no practical way to charge by pressures. If there is any question as far as charge, you need to weigh it in using a chart from the instructions to adjust for lineset length.

P.S...What is a "wall split", and what do you mean by an "internal diagram and correct dynamics"???
