I have a question about what AC options exist for an attic installation.
For starters, I have alot of experience with commercial Liebert AC units for datacenter facilities. I work with air-cooled (roof condenser) and glycol cooled equipment daily, We even have an indoor air-cooled condensing unit - outside air plenum.
Anyway, my 2-story house has central AC - unit is located in basement. I'd like to create a 2nd zone for the upstairs for cooling in the summer. I would need an attic unit, ideally an air handler that will fit through 16" spaced beams. The return and supply are easy.
So.... This can easily be done with a traditional unit, why am I posting? Unfortunately, with the layout of the house exterior, the placement of a new outdoor condenser is a problem, in fact there really is no place for it.
In my business, I commonly see and use commercial ceiling mounted indoor condensing units that are air-cooled via a plenum. Does anything like that exist for residential? The the air-handler and condenser would go in the attic, and the condenser would be air-cooled via an intake and exhaust plenum through the roof.
I could just use and retro fit a commercial unit, but those usually are designed for 208V single phase. I know that residential 220V will over time tend to burn out compressors designed for 208V.
Thanks in advance for any ideas...
