My wife's boss calls and tells me that a contractor came to fix her unit at a charge of $ and the system still doesn't work. I go to give a look over and this is what she was charged for...

Removed pic with customer name, address and phone number

and this is what i find...

259411
259411

no refrigerant charge...instead the line was pulled from the compressor...

259441
259461

clearly not a new motor...

The only thing that was done was the run capacitor was replaced. Needless to say, this guy called daily and was pushing a new system. I soldered the the line back together and charged her system. She got the guy on the phone who insisted I sabotaged his work and was making it up. I got on the phone with him and blasted his bs and made a threat about reporting his numbers to the state. He refunded her money the next day with a money order so that there would be no paper trail. I charged her nothing for the call and got permission from my company to use the refrigerant and to write it up as a community good will call.

I believe in word of mouth and will tell everyone local about him and his company. He is an independent and has no employees. His numbers are legit and google shows a couple of upset homeowners.

So the question is, should i actually report his numbers? Are there any consequences if I do? I can't stand blatant sabotage to an existing system in order to sell a new one and really don't know the best thing to do here. What do the business owners recommend?

Dont worry about him, hes not going to be in business for long. If he is doing this on a reg basis he will find himself out of a job very quick.
I dont understand, how can a motor change result in an open line and no refrigerant? The Ho didnt do his/her part to make sure the system works before the job is complete and system is working. I would never get away with that ever!! there might be more to this story.

Hard to understand her paying that kind of money and the unit wasn't working, unless she wasn't there at time of service. If this all happened exactly as described I personally would have no problem turning the guy in. Might save someone some trouble in the future and this guy wouldn't be allowed to continue giving our industry a bad name.

If the HO was home she should have verified it worked before making payment.

Two things:

1) Send a PM to our site moderators and ask that the invoices be removed. You have phone, name and address showing.

2) Yes, report him. First to the state, and then your local district attorney.

This is what's out there for privacy these days. All you need is an address.

Reporting a thread is a good way on handling this.

I've done that, so nobody else has to.

For future reference, the red triangle is the way to do so.

I just reported your post, should go to admins asap.

In the future, the top right hand corner of every post has a little triangle. Clicking that will get the mods attention ASAP, but is only to be used if rules are broken, or incase of an emergency (kinda like this one).

If the story is accurate it is a shame someone feels the need to steal from customers.Plenty of money to be made honestly. You should report this guy.

looking at the pics, the line looks like it blew out. there is SERIOUS oil residue all over the coil and the base, the compressor stub looks clean like a cold solder joint blew. It's possible the fuzzy photo is showing a cut line, but I can't tell... look how high the discharge line is from the compressor... looks like it let go, and firehose lifted from the system...
