If you had to choose between the 28II and the 289 DMM which would you chose and why?
I currently have a 87-V but want to have a back up meter ever since my 87 got wet and was out of commission for about half a day.

Do you know what happens to the 289 when it gets wet?

So does anyone have a good experience with the Fluke 28II or 289? Does Fluke also make Amprobe brand?

The price differnece between both the meters is $40. Anyone have a preference for this little price difference? Waterproof does sound pretty nice.

Would you ever use the data logging of the 289?

You probably wouldn't use the 289 for anything else frequently either. I have the 289 and wish that I had gotten the 28II instead.

I own the 28II. Its a very rugged meter. Basically its the same as the 87-5 but waterproof, drop resistant, and has that dust rating. I have an 87-5 and it sits in the truck, thats my back up..
The data logging I suppose may come in handy with the 289..
THis is my opinion. If you buy the 28II your buying what you have but a much more rugged version. With the 289 your getting a different meter with more functions..
If your worried about water you can't go wrong with the 28II.. It took a bit of convincing but now I have no problem throwing it in the sump of a cooling tower when I'm working with a new guy. Then taking it to a hose to clean it off.

I'm going to get a 28II one of these days, probably after I sell the 289 on eBay.

This guy does make great videos! I've watch his 87-V video and can't believe i missed this one! This pretty much help me make up my mind! Out the window of the car was great, besides diving in the canyon.
If the 289 had a printing feature, like a testo IR printer, that i could use to document issues with systems and it be helpful in explaining potential or fatal issues with components.
Hey Pascone, have you been using your knowledge you obtained from NCI's CO class last year in Philly! I still think thats the best class i've attended by far. I want to go again next year if available.

I forgot that was you on here. Glad you said something. Jim Davis puts on one hell of a class. I hope I remember when he comes back next year..

I have a 289 behind the passenger seat in the work van ( for about a year ). I opened it and looked at it once , lol. I don't plan on doing that again any time soon.
