1000 cfm duct system, Sure we can put a 4 ton XL20i on that

I am so sick of every a/c contractor in florida sizing flex duct on 1" wc.

Go to this guys house and he tells me his a/c guy is going to pull out his 20 yr old janitrol and put in a 4 ton XL20i. I get out there and he has (2) 12" flex ducts for his supply and a 20x24 r/a grille. Awesome, so were good for 1050 cfm at best, Im sure that variable speed will sound like a tornado in the house, not to mention the terrific electrical savings he will recieve. I tell him there is now way he can install that system on that duct system. And of course HO has 5 other companies tell him his ductwork is fine.

It so frustrating.

make sure they get a good quote from you with explanation of what you would do. it's amazing how many customers complain about your quote, but call you to do what you recommend...

I see it all the time around here also. What adds insult to injury is when the runs are extra long, such as an attic install above the 2nd floor that servers the downstairs...

cvcsmkr i feel your pain im from south florida also go thru it daily.just pick up a house that has all 19xlis 5 ton for 2 medium size rooms average size about 12x12 rooms have great windows and insulation existing company gave them a proposal to put another 5 ton 19xli with out checking return or supply duct work lucky for me the customer did there homework .i change there minds showed them the static pressures and they went with me .keep on i know its a bumpy road down here in miami.
