I need my 2-ton heat pump and air handler replaced as my current system is 20+ years old.

I'm trying to decide between a 10 Seer Gibson system and a 13 Seer Ruud/Rheem system.

The difference in cost is ~800.

This is for a condo that I plan to hold onto for around another 3 years.

Any opinions on Gibson vs Ruud/Rheem?

Also I don't know a lot about these systems and one contractor mentioned getting a new float switch, drain pan and cleaning the refrigerant lines. Is this something that is done on a standard system replacement or do I need to be specific that I want it done?.

Thanks in advance.

I would replace the refrigerant lines, but I'm just over-cautious that way.

Some times in condos you can't replace the line set, without an act of congress, so yes, flushing the lines is a good idea, but not a standard thing on unit change outs.

Gibson, is Nordynes builders grade unit.

Higher efficiency rating if you're a heavy user.

Lower efficiency rating if you're an occasional user.

All the best!

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going with the Ruud/Rheem b/c of the efficiency and it has a 10yr warranty on the compressor while the Gibson only has a 5yr. Just in case I end up staying longer than planned.
