We had a tech go out on a call, a month old new installation. He said when he got there the compressor was blowing off on internal bypass so he shut it down, connected gauges and started it back up, pressure went up to 600+ and it blew off again. He removed some refrigerant, but in order to get the high side right, the low side was below freezing. He called me for a second opinion and I said metering device.
I went there today, spent way too much time on a warranty call pretty much on and off the phone with trane tech support. At one point the guy said it's definatly not a refrigeration problem, two minutes later a whole new list of things to check. Long story short, suction sensor output voltage-feed sensor output voltage=0 superheat.
What about that trane guy? He says it's the something tube. Whats that? a vague name for a metering device.
The 425/115 pressures weren't enough, I don't even feel like typing everything I needed to do to get this guy to authorize a warranty part for this piece of crap. Why :censored:

The EEV is pretty easy to troubleshoot, the instructions even come with the unit.

Yea it is, but they almost want a video of you doing every step before they authorize a warranty part on any of the electronics in that unit.

I have had no problem with any warranty parts with our trane dealer. I guess its what part of the country your in. I have even had Trane give me a brand new outdoor unit to replace with a 8 month old unit that had a bunch of problems.

We have no problems either, except with these plastic GAM airhandler electronics. The last one I had a problem with was a horizontal left hand discharge, THEIR contactor stuck, it iced up and thawed out, the water fried THEIR board. I could see circuits and components on it corroded. They gave me a hard time on that saying it's impossible.
The customer was a seasonal resident so I told the trane guy I'll send him the board. When he got the board he had the nerve to ask me if the airhandler was installed outside 'or something'.
He sent a new one, I installed it, it worked. Seems like it was the board.

Why are you dealing with an FSR to authorize anything? Tell him thanks for the validation, and hang up. Take the serial number, call the parts counter, fill out the form, and get the part. There is no "authorization" required. I've never been required to justify my diagnosis to anyone.

Same as what Dave here has said, I have never talked with our FSR outside of the training classes.

99% of the time the worst trane ever said to us was to hold the part in case they wanted us to mail it to a home office. They only ever wanted a part back once

I don't work in the office, I turned in my paperwork and said it needed the board. The secretary later called me and said I need to call the tech support line because they won't send out a board without their approval. I talked to the same guy as above and he didn't seem very happy. I said I diagnosed the board by looking at it.

I did say this only happens with the plastic GAM Hyperion electronics, never had a problem with anything else.
