I recently had a house fire and the HVAC system was replaced - ducting and all. Originally I had a Lennox CB31MV-51-1P unit indoors and a HP26-048-13P outside. The contractor replaced it with a Carrier FY5BNB060 indoor unit and 25HCB3-48A0030010 outdoor unit. The new replacement Carrier units look very inferior to the Lennox I previously owned so I called the local Lennox dealer but he was not able to make the comparison for me. I talked with Lennox corporate and was at least able to determine the original CB31-MV was replaced by a CBX32MV-48 and the original HP26-048 was replaced by XP13-048.

I am trying to determine the Carrier equivalent to the new Lennox models I was given so I can prove whether or not the replacement Carrier is equal to the new Lennox. The contractor gave me no choice in the Carrier replacement and has basically said the burden is on me to prove the Carrier is inferior to the newer model of Lennox that I feel should have been matched. Lennox has stated the Carrier I have installed is a base model and not equivalent but they can not give me the equivalent Carrier model to theirs.

Can anyone tell me the equivalent Carrier or tell me where I can go to get the information. Carrier dealers have been less than helpful when I give them the Lennox model #'s and state they are unable to make a comparison. I'm between a rock and hard spot and confident the contractor has installed infereior quality.

Thanks for your help.

Get your contract out and read it. If the newer units have equal to or greater efficiency, along with same type of warranty coverage, you'll be hard pressed to "prove" anything. You should have this spelled out in your contract and if not, then you kind of have what you specified. The original HP26 was a two stage, 13.2 SEER (in high) efficiency coupled to a variable speed indoor air handler. Maybe a Carrier dealer will give you the details on the new equipment. The old Lennox unit had a ten year compressor warranty.:.02:

I'd say that HP is pretty comparable to the HP26. It is not a builder model. Cabinet protecting the coil, high & low pressure switches, fairly quiet for a 4 ton. If you would have gotten a comparable Lennox, it would be a XP13 which is similar. I think you are fine there.

Now, inside is another story. The CB31MV was a deluxe variable speed air handler. The FY5 is a builder standard motor air handler. If you need anything changed, this should be upgraded to a FV4 to give you a like product to what you had.
