I have an 8 year old Lennox 5 Ton split system with a variable speed blower. The blower burned out and I need to have it replaced. The original installer moved his headquarters and is now over two hours away. A carrier dealer is less than 15 min away and they told me that they can service it. Since the unit is out of warranty I would rather not pay 4 hours (RT) of travel time plus the parts and labor. Is this something that another dealer (carrier etc) can accomplish? I have to assume that these motors can be picked up at a supply house and can be installed by any competent tech. Am I correct or does it sound like something is wrong with this picture? Thanks.

I used to sell Carrier/Bryant/York/LuxAire/Amana/Goodman/Rheem/Ruud. All had 10 year parts warranties included.
Are you sure your Lennox doesn't also.

I don't think it has any warranty left but I will check with Lennox. I just assumed that nothing has a warranty anymore. Lol

Most of their older stuff was only 5 year warranty.
Any company can service any piece of equipment, even if it is still in warranty in most cases.
The advantage with finding a company that is the same as your piece of equipment is parts access.
We are a Lennox dealer and have access to other mfrs parts, but we usually pay a different mark up.
So, if still under warranty no problem otherwise you are still probably cheaper with a closer company.

I was in the business 35 yrs and you can't (unfortunately) trust (all) the contractors to know or tell the truth.
Many, many times I had people call for an estimate on a piece of equipment that had failed and when I told them it was under warranty (be it a compressor, heat exchanger or some part) they were SO surprised.

Thanks. I just got off the phone and there is no warranty left. I am going to make an appointment with the closer dealer. I have a neighbor who has used them and seems satisfied. Thanks again for everyone's help.
