Hello and good afternoon. I have an HP24-411-1P (dated 11/92) that has two run capacitors connected to it. One is a Mars 12048 (no date, but looks old) and the other is a Mars 12005 (dated 5/99). The orange and purple wires from the condenser fan motor are connected to the 12005 and then "jumped" from orange wire to the 12048. Any ideas as to why this would have been done?

Attached is a photo of the connections between to 12005 and 12048.

Because whoever did this didn't have a dual run capacitor. One side of line is taken from the compressor run capacitor instead of going back to the contactor. Shoddy work, by the way.

As long as they are both mounted securely with metal straps, there is nothing at all wrong with wiring them like that.
