working on a bryant condensor m#36-563-1, S#11p85259, refrig. 500 how old is this unit.

I.S.Unit singer gb1203-10b series 432 how old is it?

all carrier products have first four numbers of serial for week/year of mfg.

60s of some sort. R500 you say? We had a customer with one of them a while back. Singer could be as old.

Late 60's I would guess, it was a refrigerant that was a Carrier only thing. You bought their unit and oh by the way, you need their refrigerant to make it work.

The numbers were odd to me. I brought the data plate home. Those are the numbers. I'm thinking the singer is the 60's and the bryant the 70's.

The guy wants this one repaired. Compressor runs maybe 15 seconds and shuts off. There is a copper stub coming off the side of the top of the compressor, that goes to a piece like a ballcock on a toilet. it stands about three inches above the compressor.Never seen that .

I believe what you have there is a 3 ton unit. Late 80's I had a one with a bad compressor. Carrier no longer had a compressor for it. After some research we were told we could drop in a r-22 compressor and refrigerant. It worked without any problems. Pressures were similar to other r-22 equipment at the time. You could probably repair this unit, but......it is not a 55 chevy.
