Is any one using the testo 557. I just got it out of the box and hooked it up to try it out and get formiliar with it. And the directions are very vague on how to get it to calculate superheat and subcooling? When I scroll down to the readings I keep getting all --- --- in both readings.

The temp sensors need to be plugged in before you power up + you need to have sh and sc conditions to read them on the meter.

So it will automatically come up if there is sp and sc ?

Forget SH and SC for now.
With the unit off plug in the pipe temp. clamps
Turn on the unit.
Can you see the temps of the pipe clamps in ˚F on the T1 T2 screen or --- where the T1 AND T2 aught to be.

The clamps can't be plugged in after you turn the unit on or they wont be recognized.
After that if the temp clamps are good the unit will not display SH or SC if you aren't measuring any.

Dust2505...Glad you got a 557.
I got mine about three weeks ago and something about them makes me a little suspicious that maybe I didn't get what I was expecting.
You got yours along with the probes and both came in a box(?), did you also get hard case?
Mine came in the hard case but was not sealed at all, anybody could open the hard case and handle the 557.
My 557 has some abrasions on it that appear to have been cleaned up.
I would have assumed that I would have received individual pieces in their own boxes.
I am getting more and more convinced that my 557 is a refurbished job. I paid for a new 557.
Just wish I knew how to tell because I don't want to make an allegation to the supplier if I can't prove it.

Mine came in the case with all of the separate pieces warped in plastic and batteries shrink wrapped. Does yours automatically calculate sh and sc. When you connect everything and turn it on ?

After you have set up the refrig menu it should read, yes.

And, Dust2505, the instruction do assume too much. Definitely not written for the American market/
Also have the SMAN3 but no prob reading those directions.
