I'm sure someone here will know what I mean when I say that the air coming out of my central unit makes my living room smell like flowers. It is so much so that I can be out of my home, and if I blow my nose, I smell the flower smell again!
I have no house plants that might be a factor. I can turn the air on, and within 30 seconds smell it. Is it a fungus or a bacteria in my system? If so, is it "cleanable"?
Thanks for any help!

Where do you keep your chemical cleaning agents?
Is it possible, that you keep ANY type of cleaning agents, paint, gasoline, detergent, whatever, near the furnace/return air grills?

Flowers have many different fragrances. Would you describe it as the sweet fragrant smell of flowers or the musty odor of peat and dirt?

Hvac-vegas, no, the place in the wall where I change my filter (where the air goes in) is in my living room, and the only thing near it is the tv. It is about 3 feet to the side of it.
Skipdover, it is a sweet flower smell.

Adamt, mine is a Lennox. Mine is about 2 years old. I did not begin smelling the flower smell until about 6 months ago.

It's not a heat pump, and it is electric. I live in the deep South.

Do you have an air purifier or uv light on the unit? How about an electronic air cleaner? I am betting ozone..

kangaroogod, I'm not sure what that is, but I doubt I have either.

I am just a homeowner, but a few years back I had a similar problem. It started when I shut off some ceiling registers to save some energy. After few months I noticed this sickly sweet smell, kind of like slightly moldy blossoms. I finally tracked it down to the flexible duct (the duct work is in the attic of my one story rambler) leading to these shut off registers -- the insulation in them had gotten damp and moldy. I replaced the affected flexible duct with new flexible duct, and the problem went away (and I now keep all my registers open).

Has anyone serviced the unit recently? Companies sometimes place air fresheners within the system.
