I know most of you guys either drive company trucks or driving means work and income, still.... at some point it has to hurt.

It still hurts my household because my wife works and her job is 80 miles round trip. There's just so much fighting the working class these days that it's no wonder the economy is in the sewer.

You've got to pass it on to the customer the best that you can. I'm having a harder time with how refrigerant more than doubled overnight.

Where's the poll?
It sucks driving all over this gigantic turdbowl. Depending on the circumstance I can easily spend $75 a day on gas and tolls. I'm quite sure other gigantic cities are just as bad.

Run my own show.... Yeah It's Great being the "Boss" ...
My service territory is mostly rural= many miles between jobs.....
High gas prices= many $$$ spent between jobs....:gah:
Overhead UP... Profit Down...:censored:
I could probably get a raise with a job as a greeter at Walmart :grin2:

Sorry. I had a visitor and interrupted my poll posting. But I know there is a threshold where gas prices start killing people.

I am using a 'trip charge', so I figure I am fairly neutral up to about 3.50$.
I charge what the traffic can bare.......actually the gas prices arent up...its just that our dollar has devalued by 90% since 1913.
Thank you (non)Federal Reserve....

I am sure the dollar being devalued with the printing press running full-tilt is affecting gas prices. I am just curious what we can tolerate. Word is out that it may hit six bucks a gallon by summer.

Well I have several vehicles, and one electric....I just use the electric more, only costs me about 3 cents a mile to drive.

You are lucky Roy, most of us cannot afford an electric car. We are going to be doubly screwed when we cannot afford the gas either.

lol..afford ??
Only paid 3500 plus delivery....
Btw, you can convert pretty much any good roller in to electric, and if you do it right, it would be the last vehicle you would have to purchase, short of rusting or to accident putting it in to a junk yard.

It seems thet the experts believe futures speculation is the cause of the prices. I thought I remembered that once opon a time speculation was illeagle. Does anyone remember if thats true?

If I understand correct oil prices are all made on futures speculation, on a global market. I don't think refined gas is, but I may be wrong.

Every time I see a Hummer/similar at the supermarket it puts a smile on my face (oil company stocks). That Vespa has been exempted from the clean air stuff so it's OK, but don't those itty bitty nearly bald tires slip a lot in the Michigan snow? Not to mention the projected trailer getting caught in snow drifts...
Maybe a Vespa on skis?... :)

I figure I am revenue neutral at 3.50$. Anything below that is money in my pocket. At 4.50 - 4.80$ I can stay at the motel I save so much time driving it is hard to consider that a loss. Things are getting to where I have to stay at the motel anyway because of drive time and nothing to do with gas prices. Given that option, I am not sure 10 bucks a gallon would hurt me too bad.
As long as I have enough work to do it is okay. If I fall 'in-between' enough work to justify the motel but still have to drive I figure I am out ten bucks a day for any dollar over 3.50 a gallon.

Gas here in Ontario is $4.89 Canadian per US gallon. Today the Canadian dollar was 1 cent higher than the US dollar. What burns me, is that Canada exports 99% of all oil produced here. The big oil companies closed 3 of the five refineries that were in Canada.
Why, to boost the cost of the gas.

Well, there must be a conspiracy to export Canadian oil to China so that the price can be raised here in Canada and USA...

There was a report by an economist who dissected the proposal from Enbridge for the gateway to Kitamat. She came up with the statement that gas prices would increase for all Canadians by about 3-4 cents/L by doing it. Enbridge agreed with her findings.

Well of course if there are other markets (than the USA) then the price will increase, that's a given...
Now, tell me about that VW 3 1/2 ton truck, I'm interested...

Refineries make more money off the coke (dirty coal) than the gas.Our company does alot of work in the refinery here. They said they can make it and have it shipped for about 6 dollars a ton and sell it for 60 or 70 a ton.It is sold before it is made.

Thats because there are probably 2 or 3 in North America. A dude in BC bought a 4x4 version and I think there is a guy in Florida who has a camper version. Truly cavernous inside.
I brought it over 3 years ago from Germany, $2000 for shipping. It's a 94 and it came with a 2.4L straight 6 diesel which i changed to the 1.9tdi with an increase in power of 25% and 40% increase in fuel economy.

Electric? Up here in Toronto we drive out of our way to wait for 15 to 20 min. in line at the only two Costco's that have gas bars, to save 6 cents a litre. Killing the environment to save a buck, when will we learn.

The electric is a good option in Ontario as we don't burn much coal or gas for electrical power.

I guess we have to stop seeing "Our Oil" as ours at all. Once the lease is signed and Canada or USA gets it's royalties the oil belongs to the drilling companies. You might think our governments could rangel a deal that would keep some for us.
Corporate owned governments. Or corporates as government. Kinda like Blade Runner.
What's the cheapest gas you ever bought? Mine was in the late 60's at an off brand station with 3 pumps. 26 cents/US gal. These stations would buy excess petro from the major refineries.

Had to look that thing up to see what it looks like. Front wheel drive truck, forget hub motors, that technology is never going to work. Hub motors are used in electric bicycles and motorcycles, but not for vehicles.
If your serious about converting that truck, you will need to pull engine and convert to electric. Is that stick or auto ?, usually stickshift is easier to convert, but auto can be done, I'm assuming its stick.
Also if this is a service vehicle, you will need to figure out how many kilometers/miles you drive before deciding to convert. A hundred miles can easily be done.

I DO NOT CARE what the gas prices are, I ONLY CARE about what the market will bare
The average service call around here is $89.95, if I stay in town I don't add any trip charge. But if I go outside my normal range (which is 20 miles from my office/home) I add $20 for the county and $30 for outside my county.
So far NO ONE has complained, YET!!!!!
I think the average fuel price around here is $3.76/gal, but I have seen a couple places as high as $4.02 :gah:
Anyone know why Shell is putting Nitrogen in their fuel?? What good is an inert gas in with liquid fuel?

If you believe Shell, the nitrogen helps to clean the valves...
Cheapest gasoline here in Red Deer today is Costco, at about $4.15 US/CDN per U.S. gallon...

The engine is from the Jetta but converted to use the stock tranny, rear drive. It is a standard as I don't buy automatics, especially in a rear drive which doesn't work well in the snow.
I am serious about converting it and I want the alternator which is always producing power to charge batteries when the engine is running.
