I'm thinking of replacing our 24 year old Carrier heatpump with a Carrier Infinity Greenspeed heatpump. But I see this in the online owner's manual:

Your outdoor unit is not designed to operate on heating mode
when outdoor temperatures are higher than 66°F/18.89_C. You
can safely operate the system above 66°F/18.89_C on emergency
or auxiliary heat.

Is this for real?

Set the thermostat for 69 and while I'm at work the outside temp creeps up to 67 or 68--have I wrecked the unit?

Here in the Washington, DC area spring and fall come on gradually and we have a lot of upper-60s days that still need heat. Using emergency heat could wipe away a lot of my savings on this efficient unit.

Thanks,
... jeff

strangely enough, almost every heat pump made says the same thing!, they are tested to that temp and when it gets above that the machine will experience diffrent operational problems, but they ALL do...so doont worry about it, everyone with a heat pump uses them and they operate fine for an average of about 18 years

I completely agree with isuredo. They aren't designed to work above those conditions, but then again they aren't designed to work in your home, either...they are designed to work in a lab!

Also keep in mind most homes will stay 68 to 70 when the outdoor temp is 55 to 60. That's why they aren't designed to run above 66.
