Just paid an 80 dollar parking ticket. It started out as a 20 dol. tik. but I didn't know I had it till it quadrupled to 80 dollars. Just out of the blue I get this letter in the mail stating I owe 80 bucks whaaat. I was parked at a customers restaurant when I got it so I have to go back tonight don't want to get the old boot. Anybody else get parking tiks lately or any other kind of gov't taxation without representation.?

on a meter? Handicapped space? Was the space posted? You can always take it to court if you think you were ticketed in error.

I once received a summons for failure to appear in court. found out the original summons (I never showed up for) was for a parking ticket (I never got) for parking in a place (I had never been).
I also had noticed my front license plate missing about the same time.
So, I filed a police report for a "stolen" license plate a few days before my court appearance for failing to appear in court for failing to pay a parking ticket I never got for parking in a place I had never been.
As my friend and I were leaving the police station, he noticed my missing license plate on a parked car - same make and model as mine. We went back to the police station, nobody believed us but one officer followed us to the parked car. Turns out my plate was being used on a stolen car.
I had to go to court but I beat the ticket.

Got a notice from the city of laffayette indiana for a traffic violation. Never been in the town, or anywhere near it. It drug out till I told them I could produce a time card showing I was 200 miles away at the time of the ticket. I wonder how many cities/states make money like that/

I had a guy that worked with me once, that got a notice to appear in court somewhere in Ohio. He had never been to Ohio.
Upon further investigation, it was over a bar fight that occurred somewhere near Akron. On the night of the supposed bar fight, he was on-call in Downeast Maine doing no heats almost all night. He had to send timecards and affidavits to the DA there to get them to realize that there had been a mistake.

Around here they place the tickets on your windshield. You know, clipped between the wiper and the glass. Every time I get a ticket, I go to the city hall and tell the clerk that "I didn't know I had a ticket. It wasn't there....."
Without fail, she will always say "Yeah, for some reason people walking by pluck them off...." and waives everything except the original violation, $12.00.
I then pay and leave.
The best solution (which I am getting pretty good at) is to take the time to find a place to park WITHOUT the risk of a ticket!
Therefore, it's not an issue.

If it was a customers parking lot it may not be a city ticket but one from a parking lot management company.
Here in Canada, Impark is the largest parking management companies and people always confuse their tickets with ones from the city. I think there is still a sign in the traffic court lobby saying they can't deal with Impark tickets and here is the 800 number to call.
And the Impark ticket crews have no common sense, a few years ago they were giving out tickets to customers at one restaurant in a strip mall I worked at, for parking more than two hours while they were at a Super Bowl special in the lounge. The two hour limit was there to keep nearby govt workers from parking during the week.
It took a few calls from the restaurant owner to the property management company of the mall to Impark's local office to get them to void them.
They do go around checking plates in the lots they manage and if your owe them money they will impound your vehicle until you pay up.

Understood but in NOLA french quarter parking does not exist it turns out the ticket was for parking over the ten minute limit.

Whoa what a con. You would think the parking meter maids make a commission. I was in San Pedro courthouse in ca. The parking attendant would walk around the court parking lot as soon as the meter ran out 40 dol ticket time. Now everyone knows you just can't leave a courtroom when waiting for your number to run and feed the meter. our honor I'm here to pay a parking ticket and I just got another one waiting on you>>>>

Downtown parking is a total pain.
One time was in route to a emergency call on a walkin cooler .... I had to go number 2 real bad.
Saw a bookstore with a empty parking lot. Pulled in there. Door was locked. Store closed for inventory. Ran across the street into a small diner.
5 min later im out the door , where the hells my van ??
Couple guys sitting on curb were like .... " hey man a tow truck got you " Im like , ummm WHY ? They pointed to a Sign on bookstore says parking for bookstore only.
I call the number on sign. 15 minutes away is where they have a lot. Call up a buddy for a ride. We get to the place convienently located down in the Hood. Real shady looking joint with dogs and thugs hangin around.
Guy says , yo man , you owe me 160 bucks , and make it cash.
Im like , excuse me ? I parked in the bookstore , tried to go in , but door was locked.
He's like , yea but you went across the street.
Dude this is a friggin SCAM , but whatever dude , give me my van so I can work , some people around here need to make money Legally.
Hes like , yo man , just what you tryin to say ?
Im like , dont play stupid pal , you friggin scammed me. Theres no way the bookstore called you up , and you arrived from 15 min away , loaded the van , and was outta there within the 5 minutes i parked there.
Hes like , whatever man , hand over 160 bucks before i lock the gate and you dont get your van today.
Fine take it , and I threw a handful at him.
He makes me sign this paper , and on the BACK it has a drawing of a vehicle on it.
10 minutes later they pull it around. It has a big dent in the front fender !!!
Hey pal there were No dents there before you towed it !
Hes like , yo man that aint my fault , see this piece of paper you signed , it says it had a dent... and hands me a copy. It shows a drawing of a vehicle on the BACK SIDE with potential damage and you circle any damage it may have ... he circled the WHOLE VAN.
After a bit of arguing I said man Im calling the cops.
Right about then 3 dudes were like " awe no man dont do dat " and they split.
Cop gets there.
Cop says im sorry but theres nothing we can do. Its on private property and only thing you can do is sue him in court. Then he added , I wouldnt waste my time if I was you.
To this day , I still cannot think of a way to get this sucker back ...
Keeplearnin , next time tell the clerk there wasnt anything on your windshield.

Received a summons in mail for not paying the toll crossing into Canada. Canada is 10 hours away. Mailed the summons back with a time stamped photo from our video system showing the vehicle in our lot at the time of the summons. Never heard anything after that.

Yep that will make you angry, You should have called his mama something then you would have had to deal with it. Tow truck drivers are usually convicts who more than likely have a weapon for good reason, cause their still stealing.

I had the same thing happen to me but I researched the law before I confronted the towtruck owner because I smelled a rat.
I had my car towed late at night from a private parking lot that had no parking signs posted. California law says the property owner or an agent of the property owner must be present during the hooking up of the vehicle and must sign a towing order (to avoid scams like yours). I learned that the manager of this store/lot signed a stack of these orders before going home at night, giving the tow truck company free reign to tow all night long. When I confronted the tow truck owner with this, and threatened to report him to the local newspaper, he offered to double my money back.
California towing laws are very extensive because of the scumbag towing companies.

My friend got a ticket in Las Vegas for backing into a parking space in a mall. Weird.
I was talking to one of the local utility guys this afternoon at the coffee shop, and he was saying that the local Hydro, Gas and Telephone companies taught their drivers to either back in or drive through a parking stall to have the front facing out.
Apparently studies found it was safer for them to back in the stall than back out into traffic. Now I know why their trucks usually faced out in the coffee shop lot.

cops don't like vehicles backed in. to hard to check plates in this state. maintenance doesn't like the auto exhaust on the greenery.

My company prefers that we "pull through" parking spaces in parking lots, instead of backing in, if we can't find a spot to "pull through", we are supposed to find a safe place to back in. We also have to put cones out every time we stop.

One of the funniest things I saw around town was an UNMARKED FORD CROWN VIC police car (the kind that are unmarked but still obvious) with a parking ticket on it.
Yeah right, like that will get paid.

Around here the parking cops have a quota and it doesn't matter if they get dismissed in court. It is the initial count that they need.

Parked at no parking zone ,in NYC a commercial plate is considered standing and should not get a ticket! The agent is a few cars down the block,he saw me I saw him!I go into a job, come out and he writing a tik. Well needless to say we had words! I made him call a supervisor, while we both waited, took about 30 min.Well the supervisor says, why did you call me what can I do? I say, I just wanted to ground this guy for a while.I bet this cost the city over $500,our tiks go as high as $115! I also beat the tik ,proving I was on a job

You have to drive here in Winnipeg, to save money the police have told their contractor to put cameras in only half of the intersections that are set up for photo enforcement. The cameras get rotated on an irregular schedule so you don't know when you see the strobe flash if you get a ticket or not.
The contractor also puts unmarked vehicles 24/7 in playground zones, school zones, and road construction areas to do speed enforcement. People get ticked off when they get a ticket at night and there are not kids or workers in sight.
Our fines start at 10 KPH over the posted limit and are $177.50 including court fees. Each KPH over the limit is worth $7.70 out of your wallet.

I also received and beat a parking ticket like that. You can't tell me the ticket writer doesn’t know commercial vehicles are exempt. They are probably told to write it anyway and hope they just pay it.

I totally agree with red light running cameras. This is where the worst of the accidents happen. Sitting in a quiet area after hours and catching someone for 10kph over is dumb.

But the police have to first show that these cameras reduce accidents. They cannot. So, good intentions are useless without positive results…other than making a lot of money. But that is not what they are used for, are they?

They do in Europe but they are generally better drivers than we are (at least in Germany and Scandinavia). We are too busy drinking coffee and talking on the cell while driving.

Don't know about other cities but Winnipeg parking authority officers take a digital picture of your vehicle when they issue a parking ticket. I guess that it proves that your vehicle was parked there at the time the ticket was issued and it was on your windshield. I guess it is really good also to prove to the judge,if they give you one for parking too close to a fire hydrant or intersection.
They have also been trying a vehicle mounted system attached to a GPS to read license plates and see if you have been there longer than allowed out in the parts of the city where you have parking restrictions but don't have to plug a parking station for a receipt.
I think it takes a timestamped picture and the city send the ticket out in the mail if you overpark if your still there when they come back later to check.
And last week they were giving tickets out (around $200) for having a plate they could not see because it was covered with dirt from the sprint melting that's going on. They were doing tickets for both moving and parked vehicles.

Our police have the single best money maker on the planet......ILPR cameras
Instant License Plate Recognition Camera's. Most State troopers have them on their cars now, as well as a lot of local cops cars.
You can watch them "patrol" mall parking lots. The camera's will pickup any car that is missing: late registration, failed or late inspections, no or late insurance, outstanding warrants/unpaid fines like parking tickets, suspended License. Data gets transferred to the DMV on daily basis
We also have Red lite Camera's, these things are making the city a fortune. :gah:
It's all a money making scam.
If you get a parking ticket around here it's a $40 fine, you can protest or challenge it, but they make it so hard it isn't worth it. Parking court ( a whole separate court system) is only open from 8:30am to 11:00am and from 1:30pm to 3:30pm and you could be called at anytime, or not at all, which means you have to come back....nice'eh
